"Jasper" 360's on their way

lol at xbox having blu-ray and making money for sony.

Jeez I'm fed up with people making this stupid comment.....

1) Sony DO NOT own Blu-Ray! Blu-Ray is owned by the Blu-Ray Disc Association, who are a consortium of companies. Sony was one of founding members (and are now one of Board of Directors) along with Matsushita, Pioneer, Philips, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, and Samsung. There are currently 18 Board members (Apple Inc., Dell Inc., Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi Ltd., LG Electronics, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic (Matsushita Electric), Pioneer Corporation, Royal Philips Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sharp Corporation, Sony Corporation, Sun Microsystems, TDK Corporation, Thomson SA, Twentieth Century Fox, Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group / Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.) as well as 66 Contributors who "are active participants of the format creation and other key BDA activities"

2) Version 1 (and possibly beyond) Blu-Ray movies used a Microsoft owned codec - therefore they earned money from every Blu-Ray movie!

Sorry for going off on one, but having to keep reading uninformed Sony fanboi comments gets right on my **** (and besides I'm having a bad day :p)

I've read estimates that sony gets 30% of the royalties from bluray and the royalties can be $30 per drive that can read bluray and $60 per console that it is in. Yes there are a lot of companies in the consortium but Sony made the highest investment so gets the highest returns. However taking into account the license costs and charge per drive will decrease over time, the fact that there are still relatively few players and also that downloading may increase in the coming years mean it's not certain how much money sony will make from bluray at the end of the day.

The comment that the xbox having bluray would make money for sony was quite correct though and not stupid. It just makes money for other people as well.
