Jessops to go into administration ?

Too bad for the staff (I know a few of them), but I can't say I'm shocked or that I'll miss them. Their customer service was nothing short of appalling.

Last time I was in there I tried to buy some HP5 film. It wasn't even priced becaused they'd removed the sticker and no-one could tell me the price. I left and bought it from Boots instead.

The time before that I popped in to play with the D5100 I was thinking about buying. They didn't even have a charged battery in it, or one ready, and told me to come back in two hours.

The time before that, I was looking at D3100, I asked a member of staff about something on the menu, they told me they don't know how to work nikons, and walked off. In the same visit, an elderly woman (50+) was looking to buy a point and shoot that would take decent pictures in low light. One of the guys took her over to a camera, surprise surprise, it didn't have a battery in it. When she asked to try it, they said they don't have any batteries to put in.

We've a WEX and LCE in Norwich. Both are better.

It's a shame to see them go. I actually had quite a bit of stuff from them and both my local one and a big one in Birmingham always seemed pretty good staff wise. They seemed to generally know what they were on about and not just trying to sell.

Guess like all shops there is the good and bad ones!
Makes it very difficult to have 'hands on' with any kit now though prior to purchase.

Feel for customers with equipment in repair or film developed though. it's more than just the potential financial loss if they don't get it back.

I didn't think they'd shut up so quickly, blimey! Saw the Sky report about some branches getting a phone call late on to say "Shut the shop and go home!".

Store won't be missed by me, I remember when I was looking at buying my 60D a few years ago, I asked about price matching WEX and the guy laughed at me saying they would be closing down soon and how I'm paying a premium for his branches expertise (when showing me products me read from the card on display next to them).

Oh well.

Oddly, when I was in the Chelmsford store only the other day, they said they'd match with wex. Went to wex in the end anyway mind because they gave me free stuff :)

Shame from my point of view!

I was looking at getting a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 using their 10 months 0% interest with a good sizes deposit. It would have been great for me, shame they shut so quick.

Repairs – Where possible customers should liaise with the repair agent to arrange return of their asset and third party repair agents have been notified about this. If you do not know which repair agent has possession of your asset, we have requested the repair agents to contact customers directly as well.
Please note that the estimate of the costs of repair will need to be agreed with the repair agents directly, and there is no guarantee that previously agreed estimate costs will be honoured by the repair agents.

Repairs in store on closure - Store Managers have been requested to contact customers directly if repairs have been returned to the shops, this will be done post closure and collection arranged with the manager. Please do not attend the store unless advised by the manager as access will otherwise not be possible.

got my 5D Mkii from the york store before christmas (bargain price i might add ex display) shame about this the guys in the store were pretty solid guys

Sometimes they have small accessories for cheap in clearance, so I used to reserve and collect as the one near me at work seems to have good stock.

In terms of bigger things, I bought the 10-22 from there (they had a decent price and wanted it on the day, funnily sold it to someone here 1 month later!) and the 400 f2.8 mainly due to a) I knew they would order it direct from Canon, will be a recent build with latest FW and it wasnt sitting in a warehouse for curious people to have a look (the one I received had a build date of Nov 2012 and 1.1.0 which is latest with the 2 fixes) and b) the cashback which was 4% or so, which was meant to be over £300 but doubt I'll get that now!

It is a smae Jessop have gone in to administration.

However they failed to look where the market was going and the inter branch of Jessop’s just could not compete with other on line retailers.

Perhaps opening a ware house and sales office in one channel Islands for the online branch of the business to help get around VAT.

Even setting up a head office in a European country in order to do ‘Star Buck’ trading scheme on costs and corporation tax !
It seems again the main problem is paying the on going interest on debt financing for the business.
This strategy only works if you can generate either cost savings to increase profit margins or stack them high sell them low approach to generate turnover which means CASH !

Cash Flow is again the problem this company has suffered from and I am sure it will not be the last this year !
