I'd always drink it with a nice dash of tonic water (usually Schweppes but I'm open to others) and you must have lime too, if I'm making it myself then I'd rub a slice of lime round the rim of the glass - squeeze the juice from that one into the glass then add a fresh slice of lime to the drink.

Hendricks, Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire are always solid choices. However as a bit of an unusual option I'm quite partial to Blackwoods gin, very tasty and just a little bit different.

As for the original question, I can't remember having had Jim Beam so can't say whether it is better or worse than Jack Daniels but I'm pretty sure I'd choose Bulleit Bourbon in preference anyway if for some unaccountable reason I wanted a bourbon.
 
I don't rate either that highly to be honest. It can be hard to get a decent whisky when you are out these days, too many places just do a mixture of the popular ones; JD, Jameson, Jim Beam etc. It's like going into a pub and all they have is rubbishy generic drinks such as Stella, Fosters, Carling, Strongbow and Blackthorn on tap, no thanks.

Eh? Maybe your local only sells sheep dip but most other supermakets will have at least a handful of very good whiskys. My local Sainsbury's has Balvenie, Islay, Glen Livet and Laphroaig among others.

It can be very easy to find a good malt whiskey in supermarkets these days, but a very poor selection of bourbon.

I prefer Jim Beam Black over Jack Daniels, and Jack Daniels over Jim Beam White. The greatest bourbon though, as has been mentioned, is Woodford Reserve. Absolutely astounding for the price, and a delicious tipple.

I'll generally drink gin with tonic, ice and lemon or lime or alternatively with bitter lemon and a couple of drops of Angostura Bitters. Hendrick's is generally served with cucumber rather than lemon but I don't really like that. We have a lemon tree in the porch so it's kinda nice to pluck one off and use that. :)
 
Whisk(e)y, Scotch or Irish neat, or for some real excitement Potín (Poteen). Can be neat, hot, or taken with champers as a slammer for max effect :)

I'd say Gentleman Jack is. Or Green label. The Jack Daniel's Distillery tour was pretty amazing. Smelling/tasting the 150% proof stage was interesting to say the least!
