Joe Rogan and Spotify

Moaning about modern journalism being trash and people not pushing back on nonsense whilst defending Joe Rogan is erm…. Unique.
Are you not thankful you are in a world where a potential presidential candidate can talk openly on a platform subscribed to by very vulnerable people about Bill Gates' plan to inject 5G chips into civilians? ARE YOU NOT THANKFUL?!

His usual thing?

Do you ever actually listen to his podcasts or do you just select the ones that get you fired up?

I think on a whole his podcasts are fantastic and that's why he's so popular. Because million of people also think that. The fact his guests can be so varied is what makes it so good.

He's not some old school journalist who would ask hard questions and force controversial answers. That's not his job. Infact journalism is trash now too and very few people actually "push back" at nonsense.

Complaining that someone else's conversation doesn't go the way you'd like it to is quite ridiculous.

Don't pay attention to his stuff if you aren't interested. I never came across him until his conversations piqued my interest and I stuck around.

And the podcasts run 2-3 hours. So when short snippets end up on twitter it's not quite fair.

When you have someone on your huge platform making claims such as his anti vax nonsense and wifi breaks down the blood brain barrier  I think you have a responsibility to push back. No he isn't a journalist but why have a fact checker if you don't want to check facts?

Yes journalism has sadly slipped. Many have become more concerned with clicks rather than finding the facts and holding the powerful to account. It hasn't been helped by populists like Trump saying they can't be trusted and only he can be trusted as a source of truth. Elon is almost as bad, claiming he wants Twitter to be THE source of truth while engaging and retweeting accounts pushing absolute nonsense and propaganda, he seems to find it hilarious though.

Joe has now given Kennedy a huge audience and many will be sucked in by the bull **** he spouts, dangerous bull **** at that. Joe was even agreeing with him at points ffs. I've no issue with having such controversial people on but you have to push back. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence and and what Kennedy spouts is long debunked nonsense.

And yes I have on far too many occasions seen Joe just lets such people have an easy ride. Its weak. Maybe if he spent less time smoking weed and drinking his mind might be able to challenge the person when they make their claims.

Why aren't people allowed to decide what to believe? It's actually one of the reasons someone as ridiculous as trump got into power. People are sick of being talked down to by other people who claim they are the arbiters of truth.

I actually want to hear powerful people say whatever they like so I can have an opportunity to judge them myself. I don't need someone else to guide me along the way.

If someone says something I don't agree with then I am happy with my own conclusion, I don't need someone else to tell me how I should have felt on the matter.

Are you implying that because I questioned someone's expectations from a podcaster, that I thought they likely formed from a limited exposure to said podcaster, that they aren't also allowed to believe what he wants to believe?

OK.

Maybe it doesn't come across.. Here's my feeling..

I want to see powerful people speak uncensored and in entirety, ideally multiple times before I judge them. I don't want to see snippets of conversation selected by people pushing a particular narrative. I also don't want them censored in any way that might hide things that could help me form my opinion.

I'm not sure i can really be arsed with this back and forth whilst trying to proof read myself on a phone but Nevermind.

Oh, and I also don't feel its Joe rogan job to dig for controversial or ground breaking stories. I don't feel he's a journalist. I feel he has a podcast to entertain and I don't see him trying to be much else.

The last paragraph sums up Rogan. A chilled out affable pothead who wants to get on with his interviewee and have a nice long interesting chat with them. He's had on Kyle Kulinski and Krystal Ball a few times who are both lefties. He's had on Bernie Sanders and given him a platform too.

He occasionally does push back though. He pushed back on Candace Owens and Dave Rubben after realising they were purposely being fake in their viewpoints.

Yep this is my problem with him. He too often has guests on that run rings around him.

What is it you are looking for? Do you listen to his podcasts regularly?

Are you expecting Jeremy Paxman level interrogations?

When you are at a family gathering and come across some old bigoted trump supporting uncle would you grill them on their dumb opinions?

I feel maybe you're looking at an entertaining podcaster and expecting him to ask such rough questions that he would struggles
to book guests afterwards.

I don’t really mind that Joe doesn’t challenge them enough and lets them reel off ******** for 3 hours. It means idiots like RFK Jr will keep coming on and exposing themselves, as all of his podcasts get analysed to death now so there’s no hiding if you’re a loon.

It’s pretty funny though how just reading his book had Joe going from thinking the man’s got a screw missing to essentially believing every word he says. I wonder if he’s playing the game a little and does this so that the guests open up and go off on one.

Yeah not pushing back is really working out well atm isn't it. Now a significant % of the population think covid vaccines make you sterile etc and it was planned that way. Millions believe in Plandemic. You have millions believing the 2020 election was stolen. Millions believe 5G gives you cancer/makes you sterile. I could go on and on. We aren't getting any closer to the truth, we're moving further and further away from it. And there is "truth", some things are provably true but now you have alternative facts.

At no point have I said these people shouldn't be interviewed, my problem is the complete lack of push back by people like Joe and now Elon Musk. And they aren't doing it for any greater good, they are doing it for $ plain and simple.

You see the likes of Kennedy as a loon. Millions don't and millions more will jump on board. "Joe knows his stuff and he was agreeing with Kennedy at points so there must be truth in it".
