Joel, Jim & Jassim - Utd Ownership

I think some people are trivialising the restrictions gardening leave will have. Yes, he'll be able to have secret conversations with Brailsford but he could do that 2 months ago while still being employed by Newcastle. Utd employ 1000+ people, people talk and things leak very easily (just look back at the Greenwood saga where staff were leaking news to the press weekly) - Ashworth would not be able to do anything meaningful, certainly not anything justifying his role as a DoF without news that he's working for Utd becoming public knowledge.

Hence why a solution will be found, if he's viewed as critical to the rebuild of the club, the compensation amounts being mentioned are not particularly significant.

I personally can’t see him being aloud to work until at least 1 transfer window has passed unless the offer is outrageous.

As much as I'd love to see us come out on top of this situation, I cannot see it. Gardening leave is a joke these days and it will be worked around easily. I think it'll be the 6m we owe and probs another 5 on top.

They know there's no use keeping someone who doesn't wanna be there on full pay when we are in such a crap situation with money anyway. plus what are we gonna do tap his phone? put him under 24/7 cctv haha

Bigpig and Woppy would take that job in an instant :p

But yes, I imagine a deal will be done which will put a bit of money in Newcastles pockets and United will get their man. Perhaps not but I imagine that is how it will shake out.

Hes been put out to pasture already.

in his basement on teams!!

The current talk is January 2025, with a substantially lower payment.

Seems quite a long way off just to save a few million quid... could all be part of the negotiations.

Part of me thinks it's already been sorted and Newcastle are just trying to save face.

Two important transfers windows are upcoming. Our Adidas deal kicks off as well as new sponsorships. I can't see us not making him sit at lest one out. Brighton put him out for 6 month leave and we ended up paying 5-6mil to end that early by 3 months. What he knows going into these windows is probably more important than cash unless it's completely daff offer.

My bet is he will take over on September 2nd and we will get about £12m, everyone up here is saying the contract is watertight and he will sit out until Jan 26 if we play real hardball, £20m+ gets him now

we should seriously look at selling DOF's going forward. Get more for Dan than half of our squad!!! :D

We will only end his leave if the deal suits us and only us. We hold the cards not Ashworth or Manu. People seem to be forgetting that.

Not the ideal cards to be holding though, you're paying a senior staff member a lot of money to do nothing :p

It doesn't sound like Newcastle have even utilised him properly, you can just find someone else who will suit your structure better. I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Hard to quantify what a person like that does at a club in such a short period of time. He's obviously highly regarded and the fact Brighton are where they are should be evidence of that although they seem to hammer someone one week then get hammered again the following week :D.
He has left Newcastle in a better place than he them found though, that is undeniable, albeit with about a dozen fullbacks (two of whom play in the exact same role as arguably the clubs best player), a club record signing with a 12 month playing ban, club expenditure on the brink of breaching FFP rules leaving them so tied up that selling the stars and fan favourites seem to be the only way out of it and a third choice goalkeeper signed in an emergency on the eve of the clubs first cup final in 20 odd years.
