Join Cycling

- pushing to Zwift works seamlessly (no myWhoosh by the looks of it yet though)
For all other platforms, just push to Training Peaks and have that linked to the platform (including myWhoosh). Seamless.

It was Zwift that chose to break the Training Peaks link for their software, if I remember correctly, so all workout platforms have had to create their own link to be able to push workouts to it.

Good to know, however TP was another platform I was looking to ditch potentially this year. Was useful when I was triathlon training, but now it just seems to be a good tool for comparing how much better I used to be :(

You don't need to pay for it. Just keep the free version active to push workouts to other platforms. I don't use it for anything other than that (although I'm taking advantage of the free week in TP Virtual this week)

Oh hey, I didn't realise Join had it's own thread! I just clicked cancel on TrainerRoad, mainly because I'm just not using it. I really should, but I'm just free riding or doing climbs on Zwift. I know I should fold in the session to Zwift, I'm not sure why I don't...

Anyway, I was wondering about trying Join, but it bugs me a little that they don't have a web version. I assume you pick your session in the app and push it to Zwift to do?

Apparently they have a web version coming soon, which i'm looking forward to. But I'm now used to just sending them over from my phone when I want to do one now

30 day trial if you want it

Pretty much, but as it's powered by AI, it picks it for you. You can change it, either by selecting any workout from their library. But mostly it adapts to how you're feeling, or anything else you've done (exercise wise).

I do wish it was able to integrate with an app like Bevel. Join thinks I need to take a break as I've done a fair bit recently or at most I should do 90 minutes of low intensity at a push. But Bevel thinks I'm 91% recovered with 86% sleep score and ready for a target strain of 55%-91%

I've used it in the past and enjoyed it so kept it on my radar before finally biting the bullet at £49.99 for a year.
I've signed up, using @Junglist link, thanks, but... mine says £99.99 a year. Was £49.99 a special offer?

I'm not gonna lie. First impressions aren't great. The app is doing some od things (eg, I click select on a training plan, but rather than taking me to the homepage, I have to go 'back' through all the screens that took me there) and again, app based is a pain. I can't really see the detail of the plan it's suggesting me. In TR I can mouseover a plan to see what whats and for how long... (EDIT: Okay, I see I can at least tap into it and have a list of the segments and details)

EDIT2: I'm wondering if I can tell it I ride outdoors on Saturday and Sunday, so at the top I tap 'Set availability' and it takes me to the page with all the things crossed out that I need to complete and my only option is to 'View subscriptions'?!

The £50 a year was a promotion over Xmas but I was also offered that a few weeks into my first 30 day trial so you may still get one midway through

the apps ui/ux is very clunky.. things are all over the place. Set your availability to X days(e.g. wednesday and friday) and connect say you garmin connect to sync to it too. That way your outdoor rides sync on say sunday and you get 2 trainer rides + 1 outdoor. if it's power metered I believe it will add it your profile/fitness profile and adjust plans depending on your over-all fitness load through the week.

Yes you can.

Go to the day, and go to 'plan ride or workout' at the bottom. You can tell it the duration, intended intensity (I think?) and the priority. The A, B and C thing took me a bit to get used to. Basically A is like a race or something you want to be rested for.....it'll take priority over the workouts earlier in the week (or rather they will adapt to make sure you're in form for that). C category is something you're not too bothered about I think, so maybe just a general club ride, nothing intense, and something you don't mind going into a bit tired. At least that's how I've interpreted it.

Agree the UI is a bit clunky. I'm sure that will evolve over time, and the web app will help massively.

The app gives you a broad overview of the training plan but it doesn't give you any more than 7 days' worth of actual workouts to view. Everyone is different but I don't mind this - I actually look forward each day/week seeing what workout it has generated for me. If I'm tired or not feeling it then I'll swap it out with an endurance workout and let the app calculate what happens next.

It was nice in TR being able to see the full plan but I always took that with a pinch of salt because it would continually adapt and change the future workouts so I'm not sure how much it adds being able to see this?

This is my view too. Ok it was great in TR to see what I'll be doing in 2 months time, for example, but realistically, a lot of things could have changed by then, and the workouts would probably change too.

I don't mind 'only' seeing a week out.

I'm now used to seeing a week out and getting the notification about my weeks rides will be.

But I really would like a web interface so I can look at it whilst procrastinating at work.

Yeah, I don't need to see more than a week, but as above, web-based is just much easier IMO. What I think I'll miss, unless I'm justs missing it, is I could select Train Now and tell it how long I wanted. So, it has me down for a 51 minute session, I'm not sure I'm feeling up to it, I would love to say 'What else around 30-45 minutes do you have?'

I know I can browse workouts, but again, it's not all that user-friendly IMO.

so first page in app -> todays training -> adjust availability -> set X minutes -> go back -> it generates a workout for that set amount of time = done

it's a bit clunky UX wise. Things are all over the place.

Thanks, that's not too bad then. Not quite as good as TR giving me 3 options, but at least there is a way to adjust. Ta.

I'll try it shortly, when I finish work.

I agree the UI can be a bit clunky. I've only just discovered you can adjust your Readiness by altering the soreness and recovery levels.

I've no idea what impact this has on the workouts. TR would always change my workout at the slightest hint of fatigue.

How do you do this?

Well, I used it on Zwift and something positive, I like that cadence is used. I might be wrong, but I don't think TR bothered much with cadence aside some specific sessions. (Maybe it was just the Join session I did this evening though, I guess)

I notice you can follow others, or create groups. What does that then show/allow? Do you see what sessions others have done perhaps?

**EDIT** I've now also set the available time to suit what I actually want to do. I think they should call it something like 'target' more than 'availability'. I'd kind of filled it out like 'well, I can do any evening' when it really wants to know how much I want to do each day, right?
