Jordan Peterson thread

I'm really glad to see this. I wasn't aware of the overall progress of the Dailywire+ project, and although I knew they were on a role with the success of Matt Walsh's "What is a Woman?", I'm especially glad to see this partnership come about.

I can't help but resonate with the audience's reaction to the announcement. After all he's been through in recent years, this seems like another milestone in his journey back to previous levels of public life. Although seeing his words dramatically sexed up in the way this trailer does is a little contrived and cringe worthy to the JBP aware (it's reminiscent of the many YouTube compilations) it really does make me realise more than ever just how much of a void was left by his absence, particularly at key moments throughout 2020. It's also good to see - as in other videos - that the entertainingly combative tone and energy he's so famous for continues to return to levels not seen since before his absence.

I'm not sure if the content on Dailywire + will really bring anything fundamentally new to anyone familiar with his work, but this I view this as a symbolic, statement making partnership. Even if the content is mostly somewhat recycled maybe it will be able to reach those who have perhaps previously never had the pleasure.

Good to know that the incels' favourite drug addict is on the road to recovery.

:)

I'm really saddened to see that he's been suspended on Twitter (again?). Not just because it's JBP, but because of what this sort of action means for the existence of actual discourse around topics such as the one the tweet in question touched on. It removes our society's ability to be involved in certain discussions without either using completely politically compromised language or abandoning beliefs that are - in any offline environment - perfectly legal and reasonable. Increasingly I can't help but notice that this way of operating has already spread to almost all online platforms that aren't explicitly free speech bastions (which nowadays somehow also means by association "right wing"). To my dismay this includes smaller, less socially progressive, plugged in communities, such as this very forum.

This video entertainingly breaks down all of this from JBP's POV, centering around the particulars of the deleted tweet and surrounding context:

Yeah, I don't quite get their rule on "deadnaming" trans people.

I can understand not wanting people to jump into the replies of trans people and troll them by throwing in their old name etc... that seems fair enough to police.

But it seems like it's broader than that, simply mentioning the name in his own tweet re: some hypothetical situation has earned him a suspension and that doesn't really seem appropriate. It's like there is some hypersensitive knee-jerk reaction from the Twitter staff on this topic.

It's like something becomes a sacred cow and everyone forgets their principles, when (the then) Ellen Page changed to Elliot Page the reporting was trash in part because of this hypersensitivity around trans issues, literally hours before the announcement they were known as Ellen Page but journalists were reluctant to mention that name in the reporting even though it would provide way more clarity and isn't really going to cause any trauma vs say deliberately referring to their "deadname" instead of their new name years later.

I mean, Peterson asked when he should have switched his terminology in regard to Elliot/Ellen. The answer to that is so bloody obvious that it's hard to believe he doesnt already know the answer. pre-transition = Ellen. Post-transition = Elliot. The way he continues to pretend he doesnt know if he should be using the name Elliot or Ellen is irritating to listen to. I think he's been hanging around with that **** Shapiro too much.

He explains quite well why he asks that. Taken in isolation it sounds like he is clueless but that can be said for almost anyone.

It's because he's hiding behind some deeper philosophical nonsense when he knows that that person's name, regardless of whether he agrees with any pronouns or not, or sexual identity, he KNOWS his name is Elliot. So just call him Elliot. It's really, really simple.

I'm not getting dragged in to a pointless argument with you, Zefen. He's being disingenuous and that's putting it politely.
OMG, I had my name changed to Zefan, you bigot. You should have known this. Cancellation squad en route.

I really do think he explains it fully in the video. I'm not trying to get in to an arguement, I just think he ties it up quite nicely.

But he was talking in the past tense, he was kinda talking about pre-transition where "Ellen" had his/her breasts removed no?
