Just about to start Morrowind

Right, got it all running. However I'm getting about 10fps in Seyda Neen. Running two 5770s in Crossfire and a 3.4ghz Q8300. I've tried playing with a few settings in MGEgui to get the frames up but to no avail. It's too late now to keep playing around so will tackle this tomorrow.

Also I've noticed the water and ground look pretty poor compared to rest of the game improved by the Overhaul mod. I'm wondering if they're not being imporoved. Will post screens tomorrow.

I guess everything is updated fully?

Disable crossfire perhaps? My 4850 got a respectable 40fps with distant land features.

I have added MCA(Morrowind Comes Alive). Had problems with it, but realised oyu need Westly's Master Head Pack, and now it works fine, though it has lowered FPS a bit as there are a lot more NPC's now. It definitely adds to the atmosphere of the game

Right I've disabled Crossifre and turned off AA and AF in the MGEgui, this got me back some frames I'm getting 60fps inside, however 10-12fps outside.

I've tried playing about with loads of the settings one at a time in MGEgui and nothing makes it better or worse. Same load, no matter what combination of settings, always gives me 10-12 fps.

If I turn off MGEgui using the tick box on the first tab in the bottom left hand corner, I only get around 30-40fps, which is way down on what I'd expect considering my hardware. I think there's a conflict somewhere, but I only have Overhaul and the two patches installed. What other utilities that came with Overhaul offer the chance to change settings that might get me some more frames?

What kind of VRAM usage do you get with the default textures that come with Overhaul? I can't monitor my 5770's memory for some reason, neither MSI's OSD or GPU Meter works. I'm wondering if the issue is that I'm running out of VRAM, 5770 only has 1GB and the textures look pretty hi res.

I've just tried running vanilla and get 70fps outside with one GPU running a 22%, so it's not an issue with the game engine.

I've tried disabling all but the default plugins using options on the launcher and the same 10-12fps still occurs. And if I disable MGE I get a minimum of 20fps looking at the first town but it jumps right up to 100+ if I look at the sky.

I'm going to try and find some lower res textures and see if that helps anything.

Have you tried changing some settings in the distance land creator? I think that has the most effect on fps.

Also, i set keep constant FPS to 40, and now it has no problems with my 5850. 5770 crossfire should be a fair bit better, with same 1gb V-ram.

Apparantly you can use this with Overhaul mod and it improves FPS (i thought it might clash, but apparantly not)

Might be worth giving it a try

I've disabled Crossfire. I can't actually get the game to load without crashing my PC when CF is enabled anymore. I'll try that thing you linked, thanks.

I tried using the lowest settings wherever I could in the distant land wizard and I still got 12fps. Disabling distant land completely does offer a small boost, but it's still unplayable.

The problem has to be in the MGE. Gonna have a harder look into the various settings.

OK! I got a nice mix of settings and settled for a minimum of 20fps. Then I thought I'd just try Crossfire one more time, and HEY! It worked. So I've disabled hardware shading, which costs me HBAO and bloom etc, but I get a sold 30+ fps at all times with no stuttering and 4xMSAA.

It's taken me two days tweaking and testing. Let's hope it's worth it.

Well, I spent practically all day yesterday trying to get the Morrowind Sound And Graphics Overhaul to work, but there were startup errors all over the place. I tried all sorts of mod combinations, and when I actually got it to load without errors, the game itself would crash after just a few seconds. It just seems that some of us are luckier than others here.

But today I installed Morrowind 2011 and it works with like a dream (after disabling a small number of incomoatible mods).

So if anyone is interested: If one doesn't work for you, the other might be what you're looking for.

The Youtube tutorial is ace though, and you can use it for both.

Nice one. What problems did you have with the overhaul?

Are you getting good fps? One thing about Overhaul is that it does seem quite difficult to get consistent fps.

I might actually get round to playing it today

I tried playing it for the first time the other week but I honestly couldn't get into it think it's one of those games you had to have played in its prime

It's funny, but I actually prefer the old graphics when playing games like this. Never feels quite right to stuff current-gen graphics in there for me.

On a different note, Morrowind was teh epix. I can't even begin to count all the hours I've spent on that game.

I get around 20-30 fps outdoors with a 6950 @ 1920x1200. I've disabled AA, but everything in MGE relating to distant land is turned to high. I also disabled the DOF shader as it was off putting.

Looks good.:)
You are playing at a much higher res than me atm. The mods are definitely worth it though, i can live with lowish fps so long as there aren't too many slowdowns. I might look for a few good quest mods today.

@Pighardia: Sorry, I've never bothered with framerates.

I have only two variations: smoove and jurkey. If it's jurkey I set the performance settings switch to 'on'. Normally works.

I like to avoid FPS tools because I'd only get upset if I was told that a game I see as zoopa-smoove was only running at 30 instead of the ideal value of 4751.

I'm the opposite. I remember playing it years back and being absolutely awestruck by the graphics, it was almost like you were there - everything looked almost real. When I fired it up recently, it just looked dated and that got in the way of getting into it. With all the mods it gives me the same feeling I had when I first played it - a world to get lost in.

It's spelt Jerky :) I don't care much about framerates, especially not on a game like this that is hardly twitchy. I have the overlay mostly to keep an eye on GPU temps and for taking screenshots.
