Just allow club talk within threads already

None of this changes the fact that locking the transfer thread yesterday has achieved nothing.

I don't believe for a second that a bit of discussion about Arsenal or Man Utd was genuinely upsetting anyone, if it was then they need to get a grip.

I think we should all just start new threads in future for anything significant and see how that goes then, as suggested. :)

It's obvious how it'll go, each thread will get 5 or so replies and after a week people will stop doing it and we'll go back to where we are now.

There are probably well over 100 folks use this forum and less that 10 that don't like the way it is, as usual the majority keep quiet in these matters and that normally indocates that they are happy with things

I'm one of the people that have kept quiet, but not because I'm happy with how things are, but because I know nothing will get changed anyway.

Pretty much. I reckon it's workable... try it, instead of moaning? If we have a couple of weeks of it just failing epically, the mods could go back to the old way... but they're not going to change it back if people just moan without trying the new method.

I'm not moaning, I'm asking for details. Why bother making a proposal if you're so reluctant to defend it

I'd say there are about 30 regular posters. The rest are people who just pop up on rare occassions to say how well or how badly their team has done.

Half of which have posted in this thread and most of them aren't happy with the way threads are locked willy nilly.

so is the new transfer thread to.be void of opinion? That's what the crux of this is about. Either a list of speculation with sources and no discussion as to whether it would be; a good deal or not, how that person might improve the existing squad or how the system would have to be tweaked to accommodate new player etc.

that is the discussion and the reason to have a football forum. if i simply wanted a list of transfer speculation couldn't i just visit planetfootball or goal.com?

say a post was made in gd about something in the news, the scope of the thread is never restricted to a simple factual account of what happened. the whole point of posting it at all is to add your view and get other peoples.

the main issue with this forum is that some people clearly think that their opinion is fact. and that any 'competing' opinion is therefore de facto incorrect/wrong/ and these people will go to great lengths to stop you posting your own opinion if it conflicts with their own view.

people like tom84 and other posting previously are guilty of this and often inflame the situation dragging it out for pages, needlessly simply because they are unwilling to let someone post something that brings uncertainty to their own entrenched viewpoints.

ill find some examples.

see so for example:

do i live in a parallel dimension where only i have seen nani being linked away and fergie stating he loves a player with a sweet foot? im not exactly suggesting we buy messi ronaldo and pato in in go now am i? so what is that attitude all about?

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=21341991&postcount=113

tosh in your opinion only..fact is...there are few subjective facts mate..but you present your opinion as fact. clearly doing this will inhibit your ability to discuss things outside of your belief structure if you belittle everyone else's opinion and refer to your own view as a fact.

i hope you can understand how negative and disruptive this type of attitude and posting style really is.

personally think you take it far too much to heart

Like a lot around here (me included at times) language in particular posts can be mis-interpreted, or over exagerated.
