Just allow club talk within threads already

Club threads aren't needed, from what I could tell until a certain someone came along and then Tummy responded there was nothing wrong with the summer transfer thread nor was there the first time Andy piped up.

I do think whichever mod closed the thread jumped the gun, fair enough the thread went off topic but it was only for 2 posts before it was closed, the better solution would have been to just delete the two posts and let us continue with what was being discussed previously.

Like its been said as soon as other clubs start getting linked to players we'll talk about that but over the last 2 days the big news has been Hazard linked with Man Utd and then today Berbatov a Man Utd player possibly leaving in the summer, last week we were discussing Podolski and him moving to Arsenal less anyone forget. It's swings and round abouts :)

I understand that you think we need club threads, you've made that perfectly clear, but when we've had club threads before they haven't gone well so they're unlikely to get reintroduced.

No, I mean what alternative is there?

People on here are pigeon holed in to not talking about their club, only 'topics' which if are club specific often get closed. What's the alternative?

that just isn't true, any topic can be club specific as long as it is about 1 subject

They're not allowed for the same reasons as when you asked the question last month in the Wenger thread, Rotty gives a fair summary of the main reasons here.

Rotty said:
They stifle discussion ???
They create sub groups of members Fans?
They attract trolls So ban them?
They lead to others accusing non supporters of trolling I think we all get along quite well enough to not do this
They lead to reduced numbers of threads and topics being lost There's a limited number of threads anyway
Supporters of smaller clubs feel left out Boo hoo
The threads become fragmented where successive posts often are nothing to do with each other Like the current large threads?
They are near impossible to moderate because they are hard to follow Like the current large threads and people will RTM offending posts

People should be banned for saying UTD CITY etc. and saying we, WE WHO?

tbh plenty of forums like Redcafe, Arsenal-mania, Cockney Latics etc. for club threads

Not really, subjects often open out and more and more topics and issues become relevant in a good discussion?

Such as the previous talk about Berbatov and Danny W?

I already said this to Shamikebab, you can create topics about whatever you like, but once the thread goes wildly off the subject it was created for that's when action needs to be taken, specifically if the OP derails it then it would be closed.

I encouraged Shami to create a thread regarding Berbatov but Robbo got there first, but if the thread turns into who has hairier legs, Giggs or Scholes that's when it would be closed. :p

Simples.

And I said that discussion is what makes this forum good, if we have to open a new thread every time there is a slight tangent in the discussion (going from Berbatov saying he wants to leave to discussing whether he should be playing over Welbeck) then it is going to harm discussion and therefore the forum, not promote it. Every thread meanders off the narrow path naturally over time.

and each thread will be judged on it's merits as to any OT stuff being relevant :)

We will allow some leeway for that, but some people take the **** and that's why we will be more strict on the offenders this time around.

To be fair i only gave my opinion on the berbatov transfer/contract speculation. is pointing out that we should have sold him earlier for more money or played him to avoid him wanting said transfer really off the topic?

Okay so i brought up the manager - but isn't he the one who is going to decide if a transfer goes aheadso also part of the discussion of the eventuality of the saga? evaluating previous moves the manager has made are an indicator of whether the request to move might be justified and also help you to form an opinion of whether it is good for the club to sell him ?

I nipped it in the bud right there, the thread was going to derail ridicously off the mark where people would be the discussing if the manager was good/bad and whatnot which had nothing to do with signings and rumours I'm afraid.

What if the topic includes many aspects of the club then?

The Berbatov talk can rightly include the effect on the rest of the team, manager, systems and young players, they're all related.

So basically the whole forum suffers because one person wants to spout the same old crap? Like I said surely the better thing to do would be to delete the posts there and then rather than close the thread especially as sooner or later that exact same thread will be started again

A said, we will taking action in the future against individuals. The thread was closed as we thought it was too early for it anyway.

I will create a new transfer/rumour thread tomorrow with new rules/guide lines.

Okay Andy look at posts 335-338 tell me what transfer rumours or speculation is taking place here?

its 10% wish list and 90% opinion on whether clevery can do this or Jones can do that. Nothing to do with actual speculation just individual thoughts and opinion. But you want to clamp down on me for the same thing? some people would like to see that simply because they dislike my opinion, not because im the only one going tangential.
