Walking away from a work function in St Albans to get a taxi, me and a mate were jumped by about 10 hooded guys. I was eventually pushed to the floor and knocked out. I had my phone and wallet stolen. "Luckily" I just have a swollen face, possibly fractured cheek bone (will get it checked in the morning).

Sorry to hear that mate :( , in Hertfordshire as well, my grandma lived in Hertfordshire and i always thought it was a nice place when i went to visit. At least you weren't seriously hurt and didn't have to much stolen. I can understand your anger, lets just hope they catch these scumbags  .

First off, Im glad to hear theres no serious damage to you. Money and phone can be replaced, you cant :)

However i ask myself this question almost daily. This is one of the main reasons I dont go out into town. Theres always the same old drunken crowds of people causing trouble, looking for fights, and it always happens!

Of course 24/7 drinking doesnt help (imo) anyway. Its annoying. Theres a pub up the road from me, used to be a really nice local to nip into and have a pint, but since its under new management, its become a hangout for drunk teenagers and general drunk and disorderly behaviour. Whats even worse is they insist on coming down our road at anything between 1 and 5am and causing mayhem.

One person even fell over the bonnet of my car not so many weeks ago, luckily it was my Volvo and not the Honda else there would have been more damage done.

But its the same in any large-ish town you go into now. All the same typical drunken behaviour. Amazing really because 99% of Europe manage to drink responsibily (sp), why not britains?

Glad your ok anyway :)

Dude, at least you're in one piece. It could've so easily been so much worse if there was a knife or something involved.

I hope they catch who did it and that you get better soon.

wow sorry to hear it

i agree though this country sucks for that kind of thing, you can never know when you're safe

Sorry to hear that man, it is messed up and i know exactly how you feel. I'm 21 years old now, and since i turned 18 i've just wanted out of this country, its so messed up. I don't know why they find it fun, i don't know why they want to do it, but its impossible to get away from it.
Glad to hear youll be ok though man, just messed up it happened in the first place.

Nasty, I hope you're ok and they catch the guys that did it.

England is a shocking place to live these days. :(

Punishments for crimes are so lenient that they don't deter anyone anymore. And no one seems to have any... respect. A combination of bad parenting and welfare state seems to be the problem in my eyes.

Move to Australia like I did :D It rocks here and the weather's much better too

I'm just lost for words, just whats happening to this country, I thought I'd be at least in my 50's before I'd turned into a grumpy old man complaining about youth's/chav's etc, but even good willed teenagers are noticing how this countrys being over run by these people that seem to be getting away with murder. However controversial I really think we need some kind of serious zero tolerance implemented across the whole nation.

True True.

Hell it wouldn't be so bad if the punishment actually fit the crime. Assult someone or behave in a drunk and disorderly manner, its normally just a night in the cells to sleep it off. Get caught speeding 40 in a 30 and oh dear :(

I know how you feel, it's happened to me twice down here, and it happened to my friend just last wednesday (luckily he's fine and they got arrested). I hope you feel better, it could have been worse.

Sorry to hear that mate hope you get them. they will probably only get a slap on the wrists anyway with our amazing legal system. I hope you got a couple of courtesy punches in on the way down! :D
The lovely town of middlewich where I live is a particularly notable place for such behaviour. Its only a small town, but the sheer ammount of idots is unbelevable. (and I'm not a grumpy old man either 20) really youg kids (like 11/12 upwards) are out causing trouble getting drunk. What sort of parenting is going on there! And what these kids turn into when there old enough to get in the pub (about 16 round here) is laughable, the girls have no respect for themselves and the lads have all got something to prove. end of last year someone got stabbed 21 times whist I was out at the pub, they didnt know each other and he spilt his beer by accident then apologised, every friday and saturday there are windows smashed and fights everywhere. I used to rise to it and "enforce the good" shall we say, but its not worth the hassle, lukily I know a lot of normal people in the town so I'm ok when I go out. It seems to get worse every year. There are 2 CCTV cameras and about once a month a couple of policement come down for an hour and go back again. Nice to know my taxes are protecting me! And then theres the gypsies...... im not even going to go there.

ahh another example of blairs britain.

gald youre alright mate and i hope they get the scum that did that, but they wont, they probably wont even try, and if they do and catch them they'll end up with a £50 fine payable by weekly installments of 50p.

what a wonderful countrly we live in.

What's depressing is that these thugs will doubtless have their own kids soon who'll turn out just the same, with no respect for anyone or anything, and so the cycle continues....An ASBO should be combined with castration for these types (grumpy old man mode).

Time for an American system of the law-abiding being armed.

I wonder how hard a gang of chavs would be when you introduce one of their gang members to Mr 9MM?

Blair's stance on crime is the other reason why these thugs can get away with it. They know for a fact that there is very little the law can do.

chav groups would suddenly start carrying themselves, then you have the unexperienced and stupid with guns just to beat / get away from the officially licensed carriers.

i would prefer that wasnt the case myself.
