Just Cause 2

This game is annoying me, I want to like it because it's super fun, but the camera movement is super sluggish despite my framerate being between 40-60 at all times. It's like I'm dragging my mouse through treacle.

Is there some kind of mouse smoothing going on?

You turned vsync off? I always find vsnyc on makes my mouse go like that.

D3Doverrider rivatuner solved it for me. V-sync and tripple buffering on.

The game does not apply tripple buffering correctly

Runs like a dream :) Super smooth and responsive. Be sure to turn of Bokeh filter, gpu water and SSAO that are CUDA features. Everything else is on max.

Spent a while messing around on the Lost island last night, it's where the Dark Tower from the benchmark test is. There's also enemies who take forever to die, so I'm guessing the storyline will take you there at some point.

Loving this though, everytime I think I'm getting bored I find something new. Where is that ski lift though? That sounds cool.

This is awesome.

Knicked a 474 from an airport I found entirely by accident (don't ask!) and flew over there. Not only did the sheer scale of the whole map blow me away, but as I flew closer to the island, the weather turned awful with lightning storms and then before I knew it, the tower charged, let out a pulse and my aircraft errupted in flames!

What a game!

I just need to sort out the performance of it now... Anybody able to offer some settings for the following?

Intel i7 920 @ 3.8GHz
6GB Corsair DDR3 12800
ATi Radeon 5850

EDIT - Ok, so turned V-Sync off and it's running infinitely better now. I can live with the very small amount of tearing I'm getting so I'm happy as larry :D. Landed my 474 at some other airport (so cool!), just as some Harrier looking thing took of right in front of me, so parked up next to a hanger and stole some awesome lookin' fighter thingy! :D Which I promptly crashed into some house, but not before discovering the Mile High Club ;).

Instead of V-Sync try using the FPS cap command instead, you add it to the launch options in steam. Setting it to 60 should have the same effect of removing tearing if you're using an LCD.

Framerate cap command line option (/frameratecap=, default: disabled)

One of the Luar Boys missions takes you there and you turn off the pulse ;)

not sure i totally understand it, But the commandline should it be /frameratecap=60 ?

:o I'm running a crappy E6600 @ 2.7 with an ATI 4890, and 4GB ram and getting 40-50 fps 4xAA 16xAF 1680x1050. Glad my CPU isnt bottlenecking it too much.

What clocks speeds are you running your graphics cards at for this game?

I have a 5850 at stock settings as was thinking of overclocking to 5870 speeds of 850/1200 would i really see much of a performance boost if i did this? its just this game is very graphical and im worried of my graphics card overheating it i clock it to high

my max res is only 1600x900 so mine seems to be running ok so far, just been going thru the settings and what is the SSAO setting never seen it before, also what excatly does the anisotropic filtering setting do in game, i understand that AA smoothes out edges in game etc but never really understood anisotropic filtering

Do you have to register for Games for Windows Live? Steam version says it doesn't but wanted to check on the retail copy as I really can't face using GFWL.

While I can't speak for the retail copy (I have the Steam version), I just want to say there really is nothing wrong with GFWL in my personal opinion. Unless you have an utter dog of a system, there really isn't any downsides.
