Just crashed my Celica Gen 7 GT

Sorry to hear, should get sorted though :)

was that 16.1 seconds on the quarter?

what are the tech specs on these cars again?

Yeah 16.1 seconds for the quarter mile on a standing start.

The engine has 190BHP, 133 lb-ft of talk.
Car weighs 1145 kg.
0-60 7.2
Top speed 140

ah must just be me...there are still quite a few unregistered at our depot in portbury, but obviously we cant sell them. Shame really.

They actually put one of those engines into an aygo, for a bit of a laugh! It took a while to find a way of making sure it could put the power down , I must dig out the stats sometime.

Why cant you sell them? Give them to me? Or at least a bonnet and front bumper...

my gf's grandad lives next door to an 85 year old man who he sometimes goes shopping with. He has some really old car from the 70's with about 10k on it, anyway his eye sight is completely shot and he literally crashes twice a week, he can't see anything and regularly scrapes walls and pulls out in front of other cars. Its only time before he has a seious crash.

same type of thing happened to me the other day - Old guy pulled out of his house when i was about 30 metres away from him... going about 45mph... skidded onto the grass to avoid him.. span out onto the road etc and his excuse was "There was no one there when i pulled out" I think there should be another driving test for motorists as soon as you reach 65....

Looks to me like the old bloke misjudged your speed and turned into the junction early and was in proccess of cutting accross the oncoming traffic lane of the junction.

Would be you though Solaris :D

Should be compulsory eye and reaction time test at 60 and then if you fail that the option of a complete retest.

I have no sympathy for the old guy. He clearly is no longer capable of driving and the longer he deludes himself that he can, the more people are going to be at risk, regardless of how slowly, or how careful he thinks he's being.

An almost identical thing happened almost a year ago to me, however I was on a motorbike at the time. I could see how blind, frail, slow, shocked the 80 year old driver was, but with a broken ankle, I certainly made my feelings clear to the doddery old bat.

I'm pretty certain the police took her driving license away, and I would have pushed they do the same to this OAP.

Im with you on this. My grandad is 86 and still thinks he can drive, however we SORN'd his car and didnt renew his license ages ago. Its the childrens responsibility to make a decision and stop them from driving when the time comes

We knew it was time when my grandad stopped in the middle of a roundabout because he thought somebody was going to ram him. Nearly caused a massive pile up behind him.

Yeah I'm tempted to push for his licence to be revoked, but then I'd feel bad :(

And yeah someone said imagine if he'd done that and I was on a motorbike.... I'd of been really badly injured :(

It may be a bit harsh but if it happens again, it may be a lot worse. I would at least mention it to the insurance company or whoever concerned that you are concerned about his age and driving ability and leave it at that.

The sad thing is, that its true, he is more of a danger to himself and others, and the honest truth is he needs to know that, as horrible as it might be the idea of pushing to get his license revoked, you might feel guilty, but at the same time, you could save someone's life, next time it could be a kid, or a biker, or a more serious accident involving another car.

I feel sorry for the old guy, quite clearly doesn't seem stable on his feet from the pics, and if thats how he is there, in a car he is really not safe.

And very sorry to hear about your Celica mate, hope its fixed up and back as new asap.

Old people don't just lose their physical faculties; they also lose mental ones - I quite agree that they shouldn't be driving, but "made my feelings clear to the doddery old bat" isn't the most appropriate thing to do. If you are in an accident, check they are okay and inform the police. Let them deal with it.

When you got a broken bone, you dont care much about the other person. :p

I totally agree. For all the people saying 'I feel sorry for him, I couldn't possibly be angry with him', well I bloody well would be fuming with him. Sorry, but GTF off the road.

I wouldn't feel bad in the slightest. He's clearly a danger to himself and others. You'd be doing him a favour.

maybe he is as good behind the wheel now as he was 30 years ago

After bouncing his car of the OPs, he parked it in a hedge. I think it's safe to assume it was more than a 'lapse in concentration' and he is't 'as good as he was 30 years ago'.....

Ive crashed my car, should I be taken off the road? Should Fox for doing a hedgegrind in the 5? Accidents are accidents, they come through peple misjudging the sitiation. If this old guy was crashing left right and center then maybe the 'ban him' comments would be justified, but until then we are just assuming that because he is old he is unfit
