Just dropped a deposit on some M Power - Trackday Project Car

You now need some of these for the Beetle. You might need to sell your M3 and put some cash in too mind :)

Epic brakes for the M3, great buy.

Not without their potential issues though, albeit personal preference. I remember back in the day some complained about the pedal feel (longer travel) which I think was down to the pads backing off too much. Some folk went back to AP from Alcon, but purely based on pedal feel rather than either of the two being "better".

Get em on and see how you like it, a master cylinder swap should sort the pedal travel if you don't like it.

Read the same, but my pedal is long anyway so should still be an improvement, my master cylinder is brand new so will be sticking with it for a while. :)

Ah man, i deliberately haven't looked at this thread in a while, but i gave in. What a machine.

I love the Apex wheels. Are they just your track wheels/tyres or do you use them on the road? Those brakes look fantastic too. With the brakes, that thing is going to be mental on the track.

Are BMW M3 CSL brakes uprated from the standard M3. Are they any better or still suffer the same problems with fade?

What was the problem with your master cylinder btw?

CSL brakes are just a larger 350mm front disc Otherwise identical.
Last track day boiled the fluid which seemed to kill master cylinder too. :(

I run Carbotechs on the MR2, very good pad and the XP8 is probably about the right compound for trackdays. I use the slightly lower temperature AX6 as I bought them for sprinting and have no problem with them on trackdays but these are probably better suited to longer trackday runs.

XP10 fronts and XP8 with only 1mm of wear so they will last me sometime. Good thing about Alcons is pad selection, best of all the calipers and I shall try RS29's next. :)

Rubbish brakes mate, should have gone to Tegiwa and got some of those free K-Sport kits they are giving away.

In fairness they don't seem bad for the money, but I've being in an M3 with those fitted and they did not have the stopping ability full stop of APs or Alcon's, but were an improvement over stock. Of course pad choice can impact that a lot as well.

Still when it comes to brakes I wanted a big brand name with a lot of very positive feedback which was either Porsche, AP's which are both Brembo anyway or Alcons. :)

"AP Racing" is a separate company but as Gibbo said the "AP" company (not AP Racing) is now part of the Brembo group.

AP Racing, AP and Brembo are all supposedly part of the same group, or are certainly sharing parts across their units to my knowledge.

The way I see it:-
AP Racing - absolute best
Brembo - Bloody good stuff
AP - Some budget normal car type stuff, not track/race stuff.

I love my AP Racing brakes on my Focus, was a great upgrade. Although, think I need new pads soon, maybe discs too, not looking forward to that bill.

Hi there

Decided to fit the CSL front anti roll bar tonight, stock is around 26-27mm and solid weighing around 10kg+

The CSL bar is 30ish mm and half the weight around 5kg being hollow, so a nice saving from front of car.

Every car needs a bit of DH green on it :D

Also installed with new BMW CSL bushes and brackets.

Shall sort the rear tomorrow night which is also same colour, this was a very easy job to do, hardest bit was getting under tray of in my driveway, luckily had some home made wooden ramps so drive on those and then had enough height to get it off.
You need an 8mm deep socket for under tray, 13mm deep socket for anti roll bar bushing and a 17mm socket for drop links, nice and easy to do in the drive. :)

Other than supercharging... there can't be much left now surely ? :D

Love the car gibbo, looking forward to the videos

Nope, though my mate is supercharging his this week, ES550 kit, the same guy who took me out a few weeks ago who was insanely quick around Donnington, car setup and good driver with laps consistently under 1:20 with traffic, very impressive for a full fat M3. Can't wait to see what his car will do with 550BHP.

In the meantime, enjoy this video:-

You had any issues with the boot floor/subframe mounting on yours? Im considering an E46 M3 next to replace the S14a, but im in the middle of repairing my friends boot floor on his E46 328 and its not a job I want to repeat! Are the M3 models stronger in any way?

Nope just as bad, inspect before you buy or buy one that is 2005 or newer as BMW offer 10yr goodwill warranty on boot floors as accept it was a design issue. :)

Mine however is fine, I check it after each track day.

P.S. I never mentioned, the brakes are absolutely bonkers, I thought my 911 on ceramics was good, these Alcons are even better and very noticeable so.
