Just dropped a deposit on some M Power - Trackday Project Car

27 mins out on track and you wonder why the OEM brakes go off a bit. Fade used to kick in on mine proper after about 6 laps/6 min of Knockhill.

If you're struggling to find AP's at a decent price yet invest in some ATE Superblue, braided hoses and PF pads with OEM discs. Cost is not too bad and they will last 10 times longer before the fade makes it undriveable, good pedal feel too. Good interim step and should be the first thing anyone does to an E46 M.

EDIT: I'm sure you'll have done it, but just in case, make sure the brake ducts have been opened on both sides.

Hi m8

I've being using Motul RBF600, would you rate the ATE Superblue as better?
Braided hoses - done.
PF Pads - done.
Disc - Are PF disc, but OEM size.

Not me in that last video by the way, but the guy was on stock brakes, just uprated fluid and pads, so not good enough.

I had done the brake ducts, but I have a CSL front bumper, so no brake ducts, so I cut some in the undertray and routed pipes that way.

The hunt is on for a AP BBK front kit and I will go with RS29 pads and use the fluid AP supply as should be good enough. :)

Don't really know, I only ever used Super Blue in the M3, never needed to try anything else. At the time, is was only DOT4.0 rated where the 600 was 5.1 but a lot of folk reckoned the Super Blue was better.

I did use 600 in the race car and ditched it because pedal feel was going off mid race (not saying it was down to the 600, I changed to Hawk DTC-60 pads at the same time) so changed to Castrol SRF and that seems to be very stable with the bonkers temps my brakes seem to generate.

Hi there

This is the guy who took me out in his M3 with the AP brakes, that made me feel ill they were so good:-

The only cars just about managing to pass him were Radicals and even they were struggling to pull away. A seriously quick driver in a very sorted M3, though the specification is rather basic:-

Engine: Bone stock!
Exhaust: Supersprint
Tyres: Slicks
Suspenion: Nitron coilovers
Interior: Full interior, normal seats with normal seatbelts, no cage.
Brakes: AP's

Combination of a sorted car and a quick driver, an M3 devastating pretty much everything on track that day.

He told me next step after Spa/Europe is to strip the interior like mine, fit buckets, harnesses and look at full/half cages as it is also his road car too which he drives daily. :)

Hi there

OK as the car has not being washed since last track day and now brakes are all fixed, one master cylinder later, abs sensors and system bled a couple of times, wheel bearing replaced along with lower/upper bushes and RTAB limiter installed, it stops again and handles superbly once tyres heated up.

Some pictures of it looking all shiny. :D

What next?
One more track day!

Then to buy and fit a front BBK AP Racing kit.
Look at a rear cage install!
Door cards and carpet for interior to neaten it all up. :)

Followed you around the roundabout (by the old swimming baths in Newcastle) on Friday night Gibbo, I was first struck how good and sorted it looked before I realised it was yours!

Cheers m8 :)
Very happy with car now, focus now is brakes, get weight distribution back to 50/50 so add some weight back in to rear, so a cage seems ideal. :D

I guess they are hopeful, to summarise I've spent:-

Initial car cost: £6900
Money back from selling parts of it: £1000

So car cost £5900

New parts added:-

KW Clubsport coilovers: £1000
PF Rear Discs: £200
Apex wheels: £800
M3 CSL Exhaust: £350
Z4M Lollipops: £100
Evolve R Remap: £400
BMC Panel Filter: £40
Milltek 100 cel cats: £275
Rear LED Lights (Not fitted): £220
Rear Lightweight boot fitted & Painted: £400
Front CSL clone bumper and front end painted: £700
CSL pollen housing: £80
JPR Seat mounting bracket: £80

TOTAL: £4645 + £5900 car cost (£10545) - Bear in mind I have added a few items which were not required for this cars task, but hey its my project. :)

Service items:-
4x new cups: £800
PF08 Front pads: £180
Inspection 2 service, valves and all vanos bolts/hub replaced for prevenitive maintenance: £550
Allignments: £300

So probably around £2000 in maintenance but that will see me through all of this year as well. :)

Post I made a few weeks ago.
Service items since have being new rear wheel bearing and upper/lower bushes. Plus an RTAB limiter kit.

I've also got here a set of CSL anti roll bars which I shall have a go at fitting myself soon along with some lightened underdrive pulleys too. That little lot was £500

Nearly spent 2k this weekend on set of AP's but deal fell through. :(

So at the moment about 11k including car.

Left to do:-
Big brake kit - 2-3k cost
Door cards and carpeting - £200
Rear cage £500

So total car build cost when finished will be 13-15k, but worth every penny and I could probably move the car on for 15k very easily as it's being done right. :)

Very nice mate! I'm interested because I went to the 'ring last weekend and I've been bitten by the bug! E46 M3 seems a reasonably low cost route to impressive performance.

As for an AP BBK, a brand new M3 kit is £2350 isn't it?

11-13 maybe 15 no chance.

why would he lie?

there was a car similar to his (or at least what he is aiming for) that went for £15k a few weeks ago.

he is watching the m3 market like a hawk and being made aware of similar cars to his through a popular M3 forum.

you probably aren't.

Yes but that's with DS2500's, so another £200 for RS29's on top as the DS2500's are only good if you've not previously tried RS29's or Performance Friction. ;)

Rich don't waste your time, he himself is a liar, never did post up that YouTube video, you know the supposedly real easy one to find that we all asked him to link us too, guess it never existed or it was all of a sudden impossible to find.

Here is a link to the track car which according to guys on CSL register an offer has being made:-
http://www.munichlegends.co.uk/component/option,com_rdautos/id,325/view,detail/

My car is as good if not better by time I've finished, but I'm not building it to sell it was just passing statement if I sold it then it would be advertised at 15k. :)
