Just gave blood again, do you?

checked before i posted this morning:

"You should not give blood if:
You have received blood or think you may have received blood during the course of any medical treatment or procedure anywhere in the world since 1st January 1980. "

Interesting - may just be apheresis they've relaxed it for (apheresis rules have always been a bit laxer).

Just thought I'd bump this thread up!

Just got back from giving blood for the first time, really not as bad as some people thing it will be! If you're thinking about doing it, go and do so!

Never gave blood in my life and to be honest It's probably not good to anyone anyway. I'm on a few tablets for my bipolar, epilepsy and high cholesterol. The cholesterol thing is to do with other tablets i'm on so says the doctor, but when and if I get off the tabs I'll consider giving blood.

I have given blood once about 3-4 months ago, I will again but I cant help getting angry.

A friend of mine is a nurse, she says its shocking how much its wasted. Guy drunk, with stab wounds from fighting, hes in most weekends, probably wasted 30-40 lites of blood on this bloke. Shocking.

Also last time i donated I was sat on the bed for like 20 minutes before they even put the needle in, just faffing about, chatting etc etc. If they were paying me for it I wouldnt mind.

2 of your 3 conditions are brain related. Have seen a few "bigger" people donate. Have you sought a professional decision?

Nope. Think it is odd...

If you don't mind, why do you think it's odd?

on my 9th now im B-

I'm A- . Any of the negative blood types are the most rare, so if you know you're of the rhesus negative persuasion, please book an appointment.

Im gonna start donating this year, my dad has been invited to some ceremony in the new year as he has now donated 75 times.

fair play to everybody who does anything like this must be a great feeling thinking you are saving lives

Is it safe to give blood and then drive home? I'm 18.
Yes, it's fine. Sometimes people can be a bit light headed so if you want to be extra sure make sure you stay for your free drink and biscuit/cake after. If it's the first time you have given blood you are better with a cold drink rather than a hot one :)

Went to give blood at a drop in session today, glad I went in early as by the time I has finished donating the queue was way past reception and into the area where they serve the refreshments. Good to see such a turn out. Also had my blood tested for donating platelets while I was there, I have a good count so I'll start donating them in 8 weeks and then every 4 weeks after that.
