Man of Honour
I can't give platelets, apparently my veins are too small.
Not allowed. Stupid blood transfusion rules mean I can't give any back.
Well, not stupid - unfortunate.
It's been a while since I've bumped this. Mid platelet donation at the moment and I'll be in again on 9th November for my next session.
If you're in Scotland and you do whole blood donation and have been meaning to go, now is a good time. Current stocks are a bit low. O+, O-, A+, A- & B- are all below the 6 days of stock they aim to have.
I have never actually heard of donating platelets. Of all the 32 times I have donated no one has ever mentioned it.
I have just inquired about donating platelets. Thanks for making me aware of it.
Apparently there's been a sharp drop in blood donors, it's being widely reported;

As I said a couple of pages back, I've only done it once and it hurt like crazy (and resulted in significant bruising) so I've been reluctant to give it a second go. I'm thinking it's time to try, though. Might keep a look out for local sessions.
I've been donating for nearly 38 years and I only heard of it this year when I looked at an A4 poster on the wall.
Groovy new platelet machines
Wha? It looks like a standard Trima?
And that pic is nearly ten years old. THIS is old-school:
