Just gave blood again, do you?

Nothing down to that. They just dont want to take the risk. Be it blood patients ahve recived in operating, or in my case due to damaged organs, they dont want blood from me as I dont have a spleen (lost in bike accident) and therfore I dont produce antii bodies in my white blood cells. Fair enough. I will volteer my services in other ways (Blood running)

I'm not allowed to, otherwise I would.

Edit: Should probably explain as I realise there's a lot of medical reasons for not giving blood. I have a lot of tattoo's and generally get a new one every 3 months. You're not allowed to give blood if you've had a tattoo in the last 6 months.

I have a stupid fear of needles as well. Need to get over it, i've not been to bad when it's come to injections, I guess because I know that I actually need it.
Hopefully there'll be a lorry who comes round when I start work I would like to try.

Just curious how long does it take to donate a pint of blood? Do you have to have your blood tested before you start donating? and.... does it hurt?

And also (not wanting to sound stupid) but why can't people who have had accidents donate blood in time? I would have thought after a few years that your body would have reproduced it's own blood again.

It takes your about 48hrs to replace the blood volume (plasma). However, it can take anything between 4 to 8 weeks completely replace the actual red blood cells.

On average an adult has between 8 to 12 pints (depending on your size). You won't notice any physical changes or issues.

It might be worth noting that the rule about people who have received blood not being able to donate has now been removed/changed. It was linked to the BSE scare, but the feeling is now that anyone who was going to show symptoms would have done so by now. This is certainly true of apheresis, and I think for whole blood a swell.

I haven't, I don't really know why tho. There's a mobile donor place that comes to a village near me, it's just whenever anyone mentions it I've been massively hungover, I assume this is a no no?
