just ordered this baby..

Thing is, I phoned Dell yesterday (mine is still on pre-production...) and wondered what was taking so long. The guy just said that it was actually in production, and that for some reason the system wasn't updating the progress on my side. Personally, I don't think anything's happening, but I'll give them a call on Monday if nothing changes.

And yeah, I agree, I think we should have got ours for that price too. :D

Really? I can't see any difference myself...

Dell in the US have released a blue option for the XPS notebooks now too. Little bit annoyed because I'd have loved a blue one, but I doubt the UK will get it for a while. We still don't have white yet.

White was made, and they stopped doing it, was quite rare.

Nice! Why am I not surprised that I'm the one left waiting?! Aaaaargh.

EDIT: Right, got impatient and phoned Dell once again. They're still adamant there's no problem with the order, and that it's just a glitch that my status page on the website isn't being updated to show its progress. It's in production apparently, and they'll call me this week.

Hmmm...

Woho! Yeah my order status wasn't shifting, and then all of a sudden it changed on Sunday to dispatched. I was quite surprised.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Happy for you though mate, enjoy. Get some pics up so I can see what mine will look like if it ever arrives! :D

Mine arrived yesterday afternoon in a smaller box than expected. I was a bit stunned at the things in the box. Pic's will come later today.

A lovely cow unfriendly leather XPS wallet that holds the instruction book on one side, and has a CD wallet on the other with a small compartment for the included headphones and cloth wipe.

The quality of the laptop is generally very high. The magnesium alloy lid feels very sturdy and I had no idea the keyboard surround would be brushed aluminium. The keyboard is quality too and for once I really find it easy to touch type on right away. I'm not keen on the display though - the 1280x res is too cramped for vista's bulky dialogue boxes as I expected and the display itself doesn't seem that bright compared to my old Acer.

Lastly the laptop was rammed with software which took a while to uninstall.
* Google sodding desktop and toolbars
* Roxio cd creator stuff and all its 9 sub programs which have to be uninstalled separately
* Various Tiscalli stuff
* A free 30day sub for a McAfee AV trial that I was removed right away

That's all I can remember for now.

I'm already planning to do a clean install of Vista when mine arrives. After all that rubbish software has been there, it's never as quick as a fresh installation.

Hi Guys

I am looking at maybe buying a XPS 1330 with the following spec

2.2Ghz / 2Gb ram / 200Gb 7200 hdd / nVidia 8400M GS 128mb

I was going to use this as my main PC for general surfing, downloading, burning and media playback. One of the other uses would be to hook it to a 50" Pioneer plasma and use it to playback HD content, now I was considering building a dedicated HTPC for this but I don’t think it would get enough use to justify the cost and using a laptop I can get much more use from it. I am just wondering if this spec laptop will be able to playback HD content?

Thanks

It has an HDMI port, so I'd imagine it can do HD fine! Even the lowest-spec system will be more than enough for HD content.

Well I am upgrading from an old P4 3.2 Ghz with an nVidia 7800 256mb card and it struggles with HD content.

So just want to make sure :)
