just ordered this baby..

Ahh OK...that's quite surprising! Well, I'd imagine the 8400GS-equipped model would handle HD better than the Intel graphics one.

HD content can be a headache. My main 3.7ghz dual core with a 7900GTX used to struggle with some types of HD material, when I connected my Xbox 360's HD-DVD drive to it. Then I realised I had that nvidia purevideo lark running. I removed that and everything was fine. Iirc the NV 8x series GPU have onboard video stuff that greatly helps HD streams...

Guys, what is the fan like on your 1330/1530? Does it come on much?
Mine is so far dead and rarely comes on until the unit gets really hot. On my old Acer model the fan was always perma on keeping it cool but it's different here. I ran CoreTemp last night to check the CPU temps and it was in the region of 55-57c. Not bad at all, but not great either.

I was considering sending mine back last night after scratching the area where the media buttons are located. I just pressed one of them and later when taking some photos I saw a scratch. Upon deeper inspection it seems that the entire media button row has a very thin plastic shield over it so that calmed me down. The same shield is present on the small round Dell logo that is on both sides of the lid by the hinge. I thought I had a second hand product when I saw the scratches at first!

If you want to set fan speeds, you could try a program called i8kfangui. Not sure if it'll work with the newest notebooks, but it works very well on my current 630m. Worth a try perhaps.

Thanks for the info regarding the PureVideo app I will need to check and see I don't have this running myself. So regarding the gfx in the XPS 1330 is it upto scratch for HD, I still do not know.

The spec you posted, definitely yes.

Incidentally, still no apparent progress with my order. Can't be bothered to phone them because they'll just say the same thing again, but it's a bit disheartening that everyone else's is seemingly arriving early and mine isn't.

I've been so tempted by one of these for a few weeks now, it would be perfect for photo editing when I can't get to my desktop, I just don't know if I can justify it or (more to the point) afford it. :(

What is the performance difference between the T5450 and the T7250, and what would a comparable desktop processor be?

Just ordered an m1330

T7250
2 gigs of ram
8400gs
250gb 5400rpm hd
led backlight
9 cell battery
wifi
bluetooth

£675 and I get the VAT back :D

This is just ridiculous now. Checked my order status page, and it finally says it's in production (despite Dell saying that it has been already), and the estimated delivery date is the 23rd!

Unacceptable, going to phone them yet again when it hits 9am.

I`ve not ordered your model however my order was placed at the end of last year and its still not in production ? I e-mailed yesterday and was told the delay was due to demand, I`ve come to the conclusion that if you want something quick order elsewhere ! I just hope my estimated delivery date of the 18th does not come and go as the website shows no delays for the 1721 Inspiron. I suppose I have to give till then really after which i think I`ll cancel and look at other options.

PS I`m just peeed of in general as i`m also awaiting my xbox return after it went **** up at xmas as well :p

Not good mate, I can understand they might be busy, but they don't seem particularly intent on keeping their customers informed. I was under the (evidently false) impression that people ordering XPS notebooks were given a higher level of customer service. So far I've seen nothing of the sort.

To be fair, I've had another email from Dell since my last post:

Dear Customer,
We appreciate that you may have been waiting a long time for your order - and so will do our very best to beat the updated Estimated Delivery Date.

The UPDATED estimated delivery date for your Dell Order is:

Order Date
Dec 31 2007

Original Estimated Delivery Date
Jan 14 2008

New Estimated Delivery Date
Jan 23 2008

Oh well.

I really don`t see why those ordering XPS should get better service than the rest of us plebs :p If they don`t like the colour of my money I `ll spend it elsewhere !

My Estimated date was the 16th of Jan, but somehow it arrived on the 7th or 8th...can't remember tbh but it was a bit unexpected given that I placed my order on the 3rd Jan. Something is messed up over there regarding priority of orders - this was for the 1530 btw.

Hope you get yours soon TheVoice - I seriously doubt you'll get it on that ETA date though, I reckon before it.

Hehe, thanks. In all honesty, it's perhaps better if it arrives after the 16th, because that way my work and my exam is out the way, so I won't get distracted by its arrival.

Yeah...trying to make myself feel better about it not being here yet, that's all! :p

Here's pics of my 1530. Notice what looks like a cheap bit of scratched plastic in picture 4? That's because there's a shield over it that is quite hard to see unless you look real closely at those tiny bubbles. So don't panic if you scratch it because you're just scratching that shield.
