Just seen the SAS?

Ive met several members of the SAS and they drive around in as normal a car as you can imagine, the one chap i was speaking to drove a Ford Focus :)

They are all normal guys, do you remember that BBC 2 program where a few randoms go do some training with the SAS? And there was an Ex-SAS guy there as the drill sergeant, my old work place, the secretory's daughter went to the same school as him and he often picks her up from school, just like most people and you wouldn't be able to tell.

Thou the SAS guys used to hang around a pub here in town and it's obvious its them as they all wear the same boots, must be army issued.

I'd imagine the SAS would go a little more incognito, especially as they're just "normal" soldiers for most of the year.

They normally drive around in 4x4s - and tend to be centred around South Wales...

As has been said before, probably just dipolmats

Edit: ^^^ as what has been said before :)

Probably the poor office admin bloke from the HMRC being driven to his show trial before being taken round the back and put up against the wall.

Can't have someone off message now can we ?

If you want to see how tough these guys are get yourself up to Pen Y Fan and watch the buggers actually running up a mountain with fully loaded bergens!

Again, utter rubbish.

As if a highly trained SAS guy would do something as silly as walking round in combat boots. And even if he did, why would they wear standard issue, as they are utter crap.

I can't believe some of the things you guys write. Ooh, it's easy to spot the SAS guys. They all wear Who Dares Wins tats on their forearms. Sheeeesh

It is quite funny what people think about the SAS. I have met a couple of ex members and they were both completely normal people, not all built like rugby players and the like. One of the guys was in during the 80's and was on leave when the Iranian Embassy siege was on. The first he knew about it was on the tv.

In combat zones they dress pretty much like any soldier, the only way you could distinguish them from anyone else would be down to the weapons they use. For starters they do not use the SA80 that all other UK soldiers use as its crap. The M4/M16 variants are the preferred battlefield weapon with the MP5 used for CQB.

The only time they wear the sand beret and cap badge outside the barracks is to attend funerals at the SAS church near Hereford, even then the Police put up a big cordon and then screen the area aswell.

LOL at this. I lived in Hereford for 10 years next to Sterling lines (Bradbury Close to be precise). The SAS arent secret in what they do, they run around all the time with backpacks, go into town and get in fights, and generally live like normal people. The only thing that makes them stand out is that they usually have nice houses, cars and the retired ones have BIG rolexs for services rendered

Hi there,

I'm currently serving, and can tell you:

1) The SAS are normal blokes, they aren't some kind of invisible superheros.
2) They aren't that secret, I know a few guys in the SAS and have a fair idea of what they're up to. It really isn't anything the press would have a massive field day about 99% of the time.
3) Yes, the SAS will occasionally drive round in black cars and not stop at red lights - but that's because they carry out bodygaurad duties too.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't see the post above mine...

LOL, tbh. I would like to know your personal, first hand experience, of the above.

I have a friend who has been on a exercise with the SAS.

Most people in the forces have been on exercise with the SAS... (Or rather, the SAS have been on exercise with them).
