"Just stop oil"

Personally, I'd rather be in a vehicle that could suffer a thermal runaway event that I can walk away from and watch at a safe distance, than an explosive fuel fire.

Great if you can get out, not so great if you can't and bystanders have less of a chance of putting out the fire.

A fully charged F150 could power my house for over 9 days. They have a 100+ kWh battery pack.

I get the point about fire extinguishers but the reality is no one carries them and modern engine bays are packed with flammable plastic that will be well alight before you have even pulled over. If you have kids in the car, a fire extinguisher will be the last thing on your mind.

Don't these JSO realise that if the UK government did what they wanted, in the JSO logic, the world would still be destroyed as countries like China and India are doing more than enough damage to kill us all.

Albeit not a lot of people carry them and I've not replaced mine - but I don't think I've been at a crash where someone hasn't run up soon after with a fire extinguisher at the ready - just like there always seems to be a passing doctor or nurse. You do need to catch it early though with the average car extinguisher.

Yes, its the daily mail, but this article hits exactly how I feel about the JSO zelots

This part hits the nail on the head IMO:
When members of Just Stop Oil are interviewed on TV, it's clear some of them are genuinely petrified about the eco-apocalypse. It's quite unsettling to see how distressed they appear to be.

Yet they seem incapable of putting forward a reasoned argument or summing up the issues in a way that doesn't fall back on hysterical hyperbole. Some come across neither rational nor logical.

They often seem well-spoken, middle class, presumably well-educated. So why can't they string together a coherent sentence? For a group of people who spend so much about time thinking about climate change, they seem astonishingly bad at putting across the arguments.

If you're expecting clearly laid out arguments from those people then you're looking in the wrong place. Plenty of scientists have laid out the arguments in plain English.

The issue with climate is how it affects US, not the planet, that is the only concern, and so we should, and are, attempting to reduce our effects, and we are doing so to reduce the future effects, which are also costly to solve.

The issue with just stop oil, is that they are a sum negative effect into the climate cause, i.e their existence is making things worse, specifically in regards to climate.

If you think the refugee influx is a crisis now what are you going to do when **** really hits the fan? Shoot on sight?

Just seen Imogen in an interview. I really like her., I hope she ***** up you filthy, selfish, lazy ass motorists even more.

The motorist is one of the most forthcoming and generous cash cows governments of developed countries across the globe have. The Imogens of this world will not be permitted to become more than an irritant to us. We are too financially lucrative, unlike your Imogens.

You're doing more than most on supporting the poor, as a smoker and drinker. Also, you're likely reducing your future pension liability.

Amazing the government want to discourage such things, really.

My tax contribution fell when I took my last puff of a cigarette in the March of when the Chinese virus was first in the news. Not touched one since, my alcohol tax and vehicle excise duty contributions will have to keep them going :)

Heh, I packed in fags at the start of covid, too.

I've had one since, and it tasted horrible.
