Katie Hopkins Sacked

I’ve got a better idea, why don’t you leave the forum if you’re so unhappy with it, rather than try to get others banned because you find them offensive.

Says the guy who came into the Cummings thread trying to tell everyone that they shouldn't be talking about it anymore...No, it wasn't about banning people, but you were definitely trying to impose your view on what others could or couldn't talk about.

You’re probably just very highly strung and take offence at everything.

Actually, I know you guys love to throw this at 'the left' but tbh, it does seem to be the right whingers who are the biggest snow flakes of them all, constantly whining and outraged by what everyone else is doing.

The fact you haven’t even supplied any examples speaks volumes of your hypersensitivity.

I did find Chris Wilson's post where he said "The breeding rate of the ethincs in this country is appalling" rather beyond the pale somewhat and it is indicative of his general attitude and thoughts when posting.

Just dropped in here to browse the last couple of pages. Without prejudice, I'll leave this here:

Edited to highlight the relevant parts.

You forgot to highlight the most important part: "restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law", prescribed by law! That's quite a bit different to offending 20 year old children on Facebook and Twitter, breaking T&C's that lean to the left or simply being removed for your political opinions and the mob calling for you to be cancelled.

I guess it limits her ability to libel people.

Has she ever been prosecuted for an actual crime by the people whose job it is to enforce the law? you know the police? this must be why there is the drive to abolish the police, they don't want the law to determine what is a crime and worthy of punishment they want mobs and corporations to do it. The law is too tolerant of free speech it seems.

The forum has a long history of it though, so what do you expect? You've been around long enough to recall some of the very old way it used to be...

Can we just put this to bed please, it always has been about five people, they go too far, get permabanned and then another wart fills the space and it continues ..........
Yes the previous owner said some unsavoury things but don't be mistaken there were loads of them, there weren't and just like now the rest of the forum came down on them.

If it hasn't been deleted there was the delightful thread where people advocated sending the army into traveller camps to arrest criminals at gun point and then deport them to Siberia regardless of nationality. Nobody seemed keen to take the same approach with similar grades of criminal who weren't from the traveller community though, which I found interesting.

Putin is basically a gangster; he leads Russia with a ruthless streak that could be easily compared to someone like Al Capone or Pablo Escobar, I'm quite sure he's committed murder, if not himself personally then he will have ordered it done. Yet he's obviously an incredibly intelligent and strong individual who truly cares about Russia and it's place in the world. It's almost like one can have a nuanced opinion of someone, while admiring some traits and condemning others.

Putin has robbed Russia and its citizens of its wealth and its hope. He is now reportedly the richest man in the world from the treasure he has stolen. He took what was a country struggling with becoming a democracy and turned it back into an autocaracy that holds elections that are almost an insult they are so corrupt. Anyone that dares to defy him be it a politician, journalist or citizen ends up in jail or dead. He is an incredibly dangerous threat to Russia's neighbours and western democracies. Russia should be a wealthy nation with its natural deposits but its people still struggle. How anyone can admire Putin is a mystery to me. Although he is a far right nationalists dream so there is that.

. . . This forum sits on top of their business, and it is a cesspit of tolerated opinions that it allows to be perpetuated ad nauseum. . . .
I suspect that other online retailers may look at some aspects of this forum and decide that it is not a wise business strategy for them to follow. That is disappointing because when you look at some of the technical sub-fora on here, there has always been the realised potential for some very valuable and interesting advice and support.

I believe that there has always been a "tolerance" towards some incredibly unhealthy racist, xenophobic, right-wing views - this may however now be representative of the direction of travel of the country as a whole :(

I have no idea, and I don't honestly care enough to look, she was found guilt of libel in a court of law.

this must be why there is the drive to abolish the police, they don't want the law to determine what is a crime and worthy of punishment they want mobs and corporations to do it.

Abolishing the Police is one of the dumbest ideas in the history of ever - although a bit less so with the disastrously bad US Police than anywhere else in the developed world.

The law is too tolerant of free speech it seems.

But Twitter kicking a person off their commercial platform for breaking their rules is neither a legal nor free speech issue. Freedom of expression has never meant that you have the right to force others to publish your words.

Libel is a civil offence. She defamed someone and that comes with consequences in this country as it should.

This was always going to happen, to stay relevant Hopkins had to keep pushing the boundaries. It was either going to end with her banned or drifting into insignificance because she had to reign in her rants.

I don't like the woman at all and 98% of what she says is wrong and offensive

However she has been banned for her own thoughts right or wrong isn't that surpressing a person's right of free speech.

Twitter after all have let her do it for years anyway, no one forces any one to follow or listen to her

No, because the principle behind free speech is that the State can't impinge on your right to express your opinions (and even that isn't absolute as we have hate speech and incitement laws)

Twitter is a private company with its own T&C's, it's up to them who can use their platform, just like this forum where people get banned for saying things that break their T&C's. And that's not a free speech issue either

As a principle I don't believe in censorship at all. Even for the trolls out there don't take their platform away just don't feed them.

Well yeah this is it, no one has to follow her. I don't know what Owen Jones says on Twitter or in any of his articles because I don't follow him and have no interest in following him. He could be saying anything and it wouldn't affect me. Yet people want her banned from Twitter when they can simply exercise their right to not follow or listen to anything she says.

Letting them have an unfiltered platform is feeding them though.
Censorship will only lead to more draconian consequences, and twitter sadly is a monolith monopoloy in the west politically. I don't even believe banning David Icke off of youtube was the correct thing to do. We should be clever enough to understand people can entertain a thought without actually believing it.

Twitter is not a monopoly, there are plenty of other platforms out there. Honestly this contradiction that seems to come from a particular quarter is starting to annoy me, you live in a capitalist society, it's a matter of effort.
