Katie Hopkins Sacked

I think you just have to expect there to be idiots on here and in life generally.

I mean I've had two people this week refuse to accept that I've experienced racism... lol. Yet those same people are outraged and feel their lives are threatened by what someone said on Twitter about their whole race...

You do have to expect it, but that doesn't mean that it should be tolerated. I'm not talking about all the faux outrage that's on the big social networks, I'm talking about systemic content that's posted on these forums - often very eloquently countered and argued against by many forum members here - that's simply allowed to continue to be posted on and on again. Often it isn't a single post, but a pattern from a single or number of posters.

Just dropped in here to browse the last couple of pages. Without prejudice, I'll leave this here:

Freedom of expression

1Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers. This Article shall not prevent States from requiring the licensing of broadcasting, television or cinema enterprises.

2The exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society, in the interests of national security, territorial integrity or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or rights of others, for preventing the disclosure of information received in confidence, or for maintaining the authority and impartiality of the judiciary.

Edited to highlight the relevant parts.

Rather than throw around baseless accusations, how about you report the content or show us what you believe they've said that is bigoted and racist?

If you want to post 'hate speech', call for the rape and murder of people or simply just post racist comments then the solution is simple. Just add #BLM or #AntiFa tags and you can post anything you want without fear of recourse.

I agree with some of the things she says, but other things she says are vile and reprehensible.

Even on the points I agree on, I still think "what a ****" because of the arrogant vitriol filled way she says them.

She can be put on the first rocket to the centre of the sun along with Piers Morgan. (whom I have been agreeing with an increasing amount, but still think he's a ****) :p

Shes always struck me as someone that knows how to stay in the headlines by saying edgey things. Sometimes she goes over the line and on occasion way over.

If her comments were about parents struggling to feed their own children during school closures then that's a perfectly valid point. Yes there are some that are just unfortunate and have hit some bad luck but there are also plenty that will have £100+ pm sky contracts and huge credit card Bill's that simply lack the ability to plan for their childs future and let the state pick up the slack.

Nuance be damned as always though.

I've never heard the Daily Mail propaganda referred to as "nuance" before.

Tell us the numbers of these, please?

(or is it just "common sense" that people who've "had enough of experts" don't need evidence about to just know)

Sacked after a campaign by James O'Brien and Owen Jones and others to persuade left wing guests to refuse to be on LBC unless she was sacked.
O'Brien mentions her and Nigel Farage daily and calls them hate preachers of course his daily bile of ultra left wing politics is fine.
Farage will be next.
Amazing how the left love free speech until it doesn't agree with them.
Silence the non believers

Tell us about these awful people forcing you to use twitter or listen to LBC?

Or explain how your laws would work that force companies to have random people plaster what they want over their product? Send me your company letterhead, and your football team's shirt, and I'll return them with what I insist you have written all over them from now on.

Probably nothing to the do with the kids comment but her “dead white people” tweet or her #whiteoutwednesday or maybe just the hundreds of tweets of racists bile she spews out and Twitter has finally just had enough.

I was being somewhat hyperbolic but I know so many people that have made terrible financial decisions and have had more children than they can realistically afford. It's a difficult conversation to have when it comes to the wellbeing of kids that end up in these situations through no fault of their own, but there has to be a line drawn where it's not the responsibility of people that have made good financial decisions to pick of the tab for those that have not.

Subsidising this encourages more of it in the long run which isnt good for these kids or society at large.

I am sure that you would also support the absolute right not to provide a platform where someone can promote any "ideas" and "opinions"?

Do you for instance think that publishers have a duty to carry the recommendation that drinking bleach is a surefire cure for COVID-19?

I’ve got a better idea, why don’t you leave the forum if you’re so unhappy with it, rather than try to get others banned because you find them offensive. You’re probably just very highly strung and take offence at everything. The fact you haven’t even supplied any examples speaks volumes of your hypersensitivity.

Take a chill pill bro

Both can continue their "far right hate speech" using plenty of other mediums, only now the general public won't hear about it so they can't judge for themselves how bad/good the pair are, plus anyone who may not have heard of Hopkins, because she's been "out of the news" for a while, are now going to ask "well what did she get banned for?" and this particular reason is very weak, leading to some of the general public thinking she's been judged too harshly, feeling sorry for her and that twitter is out of control.

Yeah, sounds like a great "victory" there!

How about this for a bit of rational, common sense logic - let them stay on the platform, let them say horrible things, let everyone see what horrible people they are and let everyone laugh at them or ignore them and watch them fall away due to the lack of Press reporting starving them of PR and clout. Unless that is you are scared that, if people should hear what they say, they might agree with them?

I think the quote is “When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say.”

Thing is lots of people don't laugh at her. I see people quoting her rants on social media all the time. They feel justified in their views because she says what they are thinking. She is a horrible human being and social media was vital to her for spreading her message and making her living from it. Now she will hopefully disappear like Britain First before her, when was the last you you heard about them? Without the big social media companies they have gone back to being a tiny fringe group like the National Front and BNP, when there was no social media.

Should Twitter be forced to offer her a platform then?
