Katie Hopkins Sacked

Good news, first Farage gets the boot from LBC now Hopkins gets permabanned from Twitter. Finally people are waking up to this unacceptable far right hate speech!

Both can continue their "far right hate speech" using plenty of other mediums, only now the general public won't hear about it so they can't judge for themselves how bad/good the pair are, plus anyone who may not have heard of Hopkins, because she's been "out of the news" for a while, are now going to ask "well what did she get banned for?" and this particular reason is very weak, leading to some of the general public thinking she's been judged too harshly, feeling sorry for her and that twitter is out of control.

Yeah, sounds like a great "victory" there!

How about this for a bit of rational, common sense logic - let them stay on the platform, let them say horrible things, let everyone see what horrible people they are and let everyone laugh at them or ignore them and watch them fall away due to the lack of Press reporting starving them of PR and clout. Unless that is you are scared that, if people should hear what they say, they might agree with them?

I think the quote is “When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say.”

Yet you admire Russia/Putin? They literally assassinate dissenters.

Putin is basically a gangster; he leads Russia with a ruthless streak that could be easily compared to someone like Al Capone or Pablo Escobar, I'm quite sure he's committed murder, if not himself personally then he will have ordered it done. Yet he's obviously an incredibly intelligent and strong individual who truly cares about Russia and it's place in the world. It's almost like one can have a nuanced opinion of someone, while admiring some traits and condemning others.

I hate her but I actually agreed with some of her new rant.
I suppose you can't go round making fun of Marcus Rashford now he's the new hero on the block.

Hopefully Chris Wilson and Roar87 will be be next, from these forums. It isn't personal after all, the direction is just to remove bigoted and racist content.

Why are OCUK blind to this? This forum sits on top of their business, and it is a cesspit of tolerated opinions that it allows to be perpetuated ad nauseum. Selling PC parts is a great business these days, but it is more than a little uncomfortable when the supported chat group beneath continually accepts and tolerates such far right views.

So you can imagine 'wanting to deny people the ability to express their opinion'? I was merely pointing out your (supposed) contradicting position.

The forum has a long history of it though, so what do you expect? You've been around long enough to recall some of the very old way it used to be...

Having said that I don't think the people you mention should be banned really, unless they're breaking the rules, surely. Some posters do seem to have found a way to skirt on the limit of the rules to which the mods do appear to turn a blind eye.

I expect it to change. As does broader society and everyone else. The views being expressed by some today are not 'history', they're today's views. The forum nor members get a free pass simple because they've been racist for a long time.

I doubt it. Irrational fear won't change just like that. Perhaps in a few generations but not in our lifetimes. Banning people from stating what they feel won't stop them feeling it.

Wait, are you on about moderating changing or opinions/views?

I'm surprised that a primarily online retailer, which places a great emphasis on its online community to drive sales, continues to be tolerant and accepting (and sometimes even apparently supportive) of what are largely unacceptable views. A bit like browsing in a shop where people are happily chatting that it is ok that children in the UK are hungry because lots of parents might choose to smoke.

The system isn't perfect, and neither are the forums, but some of the opinions that are tolerated on here are and have been completely abhorrent. When you have rules that say that you can't say the word **** but then ignore content that consistent argues all manner of racist and right wing nonsense, it is no wonder that people object or ignore this place.

It has been allowed to become a cesspit. There are so many great people sharing great views here, but there's a horrible small hardcore that are truly terrible.

Why are you quoting from a newspaper founded on the profits of a cotton trader who used slave labour on his plantations? It should be banned and its buildings razed to the ground ;)

The Guardian, (then the Manchester Guardian before it squandered its inheritance by moving down the Smoke and now having to beg funding), even had the timerity to call Abraham Lincoln "abhorrent" in their clamour to support "Black Lives Matter" protests, despite him being a President of the United States openly against the slave trade. It's frankly bizarre how many here hang off its every sentence with such a terrible history ;)

Hi mate, could you quote specifically the posts of mine you believe are "unacceptable views", rather than slander my character? You don't even have the decency or strength of character to address me directly. You talk about me in the third person, like I know you no doubt have an aversion to holding eye contact with people in real life, but at least quote me directly if you're going to make broad accusations.

Loads of people sharing common views and opinions on very divisive topics (no matter how "great" some may find them), doth not a general discussion forum make. It makes a bland, sycophantic echo chamber. For that we have the Speaker's Corner ;)

Heh, I've previously pointed out the double-standards of some of the rules, and application of, but I just accept it being part of the fabric. I'm not on about ring-wing views but there have been some pretty offensive posts that seemingly don't break any rules.

I don't think it's been allowed to become a cesspit, it's always been there or there abouts :p

Plenty of them, and the simple fact that they're continually tolerated is damming.

No community is perfect, and it takes time for things to change, but this forum's governance is light years behind society and, therefore, is probably alienating tomorrow's customers before they even know it.

Why would a woman buy something from here, when the community is obsessed by 'smashing a pasty'. How are those consumers supposed to engage with the community without hiding? This isn't about being ultra woke, it is about being normal. Bias has been accepted for far too long, and too many laugh and perpetuate it. It isn't about stifling views, it is about an honest conversation about what is acceptable.

Well, I've never purchased anything from here :)

I think you just have to expect there to be idiots on here and in life generally.

I mean I've had two people this week refuse to accept that I've experienced racism... lol. Yet those same people are outraged and feel their lives are threatened by what someone said on Twitter about their whole race...
