Keeping up with the Markles

It still comes back to them not having any proof so they should have kept it as an internal complaint or between themselves. After all their complaints of misinformation in the press they ought to realise they need evidence to back up their claims. No proof = no case.

I wonder how many people take them seriously now, especially after that interview. They are worthless.

@fez @adam cool dude

I am more broadly considering racism to just be ‘unfair discrimination against people based on race’ and therefore I think people can have thoughts and feelings that do this, without there necessarily being any maliciousness to it or any objectionable behaviour.

Thats very much what I would consider racism to be as well. I also think that is something that we should be addressing where we can.

The detail is in why the discrimination happened and whether any of that was based purely on the colour of someones skin or their ethnicity.

The problem is that we call almost everything that happens to someone of colour racism.

What we need to be able to differentiate between is the colour of someones skin and their personality and culture. My partner works at the NHS and she deals with quite a lot of black women from different african countries. One of the biggest issues they have is that some of them are, by english standards rude and obnoxious and in a lot of cases rub people up the wrong way.

For some of them, that stunts their career progression. Is it because they are black or is it because culturally we don't reward that behaviour in this country. This is the why its counter productive to call things racist when they are cultural.

Go to Japan and behave like an arrogant American and see where you get. Is that Asians being racist against Americans? No, its a cultural clash. Who is right in these situations? The brash American or the more reserved and respectful Japanese.

I hope they have their titles and funding completely removed if it hasn't already happened.

It's just funny because they both probably thought that that interview was their moment to tell it like it really was.

And now most people think they look like a couple of spoiled entitled idiots with nothing to offer the world apart from bitterness, slander and negativity.

Especially ropey accusations like "someone said something potentially racist but we won't say who it was and we never will". Those are absolutely meaningless.

Depends what colour the Americans are :D

But I agree - I've been talking about the difference between culture and skin colour and how they've been conflated for years, but I don't think there's much appetite in society to hear that.

Granted that I haven’t read all this about Sharon Osbourne in minute detail, but I understood that Ms. Osbourne was probably defending Piers Morgan’s right to say that in his opinion, Meghan was lying, not anything about her race.
Theres that but also.

Sharon Osbourne will no longer appear on the popular show The Talk following investigations into the star’s on-air meltdown earlier this month and disturbing allegations of racism her by colleagues.

CBS said the embattled media personality “has decided to leave The Talk” due to the outcome of the internal review, further stating that Osbourne’s behaviour “did not align with our values for a respectful workplace”.

"Did not align with our values" is so vague as to give no clue why she was let go. If the only piece of evidence that she's a racist is defending Piers Morgan then that's a spectacularly low bar given there is also no evidence against Piers.

Its like Lawrence Fox on question time all over again.

I cant for the life of me find it now but I read it was due to racist remarks made to staff and colleagues that have only came to light as a result of this. There are quotes somewhere.

Good riddance if those allegations are indeed true.

It is quite amazing the change a lot of industries have gone through from the metoo movement to the anti racism movement. These people were allowed to just carry on with their **** for decades and they didnt think decency should apply to them.

However all she asked for was evidence about Piers being racist when he didn't believe Meghan.
It was nothing to do with racism.

So you think her comments made her deserving of being forced out of her job?

Not true.

It was because morgan was said to be racist.
And she backed him up. Which is false.

I think if you're in a job where you speak publicly there's a range of subjects where you're asked for an opinion on an accusation and you are obliged to start by saying racism/sex offending/people trafficking/unapproved bigoty is unacceptable, that you have sympathy to victims of the aforementioned and perpetrators should be tortured to death etc.

Otherwise there's the implication that you're sympathetic to these unacceptable matters if you decide to launch into a opinion that isn't strongly against the above.

Get paid to observe and gossip in a socially acceptable way about socially acceptable matters, get kicked out for going blind.

Do you have any specific allegations you'd like to share or are you (in typical fashion) just trying to say, "them's bad people," and hope somebody finds that convincing, even without anything of any substance having been presented (by yourself).
