Kerbal Space Program

yeh they need station keeping, much like real life.

Some sport of if you get within a few meters, then a a pop up menu should appear saying are you trying for geo stationery, click yes and it fudges th parameters as unity has to many decimal error in it, to do it any other way than fudging.

They also need to fudge Lagrange points somehow.

problem with lagrange points is it needs to model two or more SOI at the same time, something which KSP doesn't do :(

Yeah both of those they could just effectively build in a tolerance to filter out the tiny drift that will happen... maybe the could have something similar to real-life, so you'd activate a system similar to your SAS/RCS when you're very close to geo-stationary/lagrange and provided you're close enough it will drain a very small amount of electricity/monopropellant to keep you there over time

So my friend challenged me to land on the Vehicle Assembly Building roof using a craft that wasnt capable of VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing). I could have gone for the boring approach by taking a standard plane and adding a bajillion parachutes so that I could float down to the helipads on top of the VAB. However, I had a much more fun idea, and it worked :D

My idea of using a jet to provide downforce so that I could drive up the wall of the building worked a treat. THe car quickly scaled the wall of the VAB as if it was level ground. However, I underestimated just how powerful this jet was and when I got to the edge of the building the car flew forwards very quickly and bashed the air intake clean off, Leaving Jebediah stuck on the roof with no way down.

Airplane Alt and speed challenge? 37k and 2266m/s

Thats a very impressive plane, but the challenge was highest speed at less than 30km altitude :)

Not much an achievement compared to what others in here are doing, but managed to get a probe into a stable and almost circular orbit around Kerbin last night :D

Next step, some Kerbals and also going to look at mapping Kerbin (if you can do that) Am guessing the best way for mapping is have the probe in a polar orbit?

I can see many hours of my life being spent on this game........

Also, any recommends on a mod for more components and parts?

yes, polar orbit is best for mapping.

Some good mods to get you started are:
Mechjeb (just for the delta-v info, ignore the auto control options)
Kethane (gives each planet mineable fuel that can be converted into whatever fuel you need)
B9 aerospace
KW rocketry (not updated to 21.1 yet)
Novapunch
procedural fairings (automatically shapes a fairing to cover your rocket smoothly)
procedural wings (custom sized wings)
Welded parts (a bunch of stock parts have been welded together into one part to reduce your part count

Isamap satis what you want for mapping.

Cheers...looks like it was KW Rocketry that I had on an older version that was looking for. Hope it gets updated soon, really like that mod

Many thanks...will give that one a try and see how i get on. i take it i can just add this and use the probe I currently have in orbit ok?

You'll need to relaunch, mapping probes need a dish module to actually map anything. They're small and light though, so you can just slap it onto your old probe system and relaunch it.

What essential mods do I need if any ?

Or are they kinda cheating ?

I've currently got the kethane mod installed along with the kerbal attachment system mod.

With kethane you can set up mining bases to mine kethane and convert it into normal fuels. With the KAS mod i believe you can link ships together with a cable and transfer the mined fuel.

Hopefully i can create some form of mining base and orbiting station combo around the mun.

One of the strongly recommended mods is MechJeb. One thing it does is show a lot of really helpful information about your craft like the remaining delta V or orbital information. It also has autopilot functions which divide people: some say it is cheating, some say it's not because real missions have had guidance help, and others say it saves them from the monotony of manual maneuvres.

The information is definitely useful, make your own mind up about the autopilot.

ISA mapsat also looks like it hasn't updated :(

KW rocketry might just work on 0.21.1 (unlikely, but possible), but ISA mapsat definitely wont because a lot of the planets have been remodelled, especially the moon

you dont really need any mods (other than mechjeb for the delta-v information) but my post on the previous page has a bunch of good parts mods

Use the kerbal engineer mod that someone linked on the last page instead of Mechjeb :)
Finding it a lot more accessible than I remember Mechjeb being.
