Kerbal Space Program

Alt tabs fine here. Although sometimes it swaps to windowed mode and screws the colours - when it does this I just hit Alt+Enter and it all gets fixed :)

Made it !

Completely ruined it after I landed when I pressed the windows key- KSP doesn't like alt tabbing in Windows 8! Oh well, I know I achieved it, even if the game doesn't.

I did the same type of thing. I tried to alt tab out after landing and flew back up into space :o, managed to rescue the situation though and get it back down safely, using up most of my emergency fuel reserve. Got back to Kerbin but only had about 10 - 20 seconds worth of fuel left

Pfffft, 10-20 seconds left, thats nothing to worry about. Try crash landing on the moon, losing your only engine and then trying to take off with RCS alone (after separating from the utterly useless fuel tank). Luckily the rocket I was using had a separate command ship orbiting the moon, and the lander was able to dump everything except for the pod, docking port and the RCS gubbins. because the craft was so light and the moon's gravity is so low i had just enough RCS to get into some sort of orbit so that the command ship could dock with me

YESS!!! After getting KSP in the Steam summer sale I've finally got a couple of satellites into orbit!

I did forget to put batteries on one of my satellites though so when it passes behind Kerbin it powers off :(

Next up: getting a brave Kerbinaut into space!

Edit:
I managed to get Jeb into orbit. I've been trying to get a fairly basic space station into orbit but can't seem to get enough lift to get all the way into orbit.

:p If it's any consolation or helps you decide... I was pretty skeptical of the game even in the sale, since most of the things I was buying were much cheaper and I thought... "£10, hmmm" normally I'd want to be more convinced of a game before paying that kind of money in a steam sale for it, but friends told me it was worth it so I gave it a chance.... It really is good, and I remember thinking almost right away after an evening of playing "I can't believe I almost didn't buy this!!!"... If you like the look of it it's a decent game and you will probably get enough time out of it to make it worth the cash - 18 Hours of play = £1 per hour....

I think you mean 15 hours of play = £1 per hour ;) Its $23 on the kerbal store

Got this game last night and loving it.

The highest I've managed to go so far is 32km and then I run out of fuel. That's using 3 solid rocket boosters, so I might add some more.

Sounds like you need to try adding some upper stages. But yes, go ahead, add more boosters :D

I tried adding more upper stages but ended up crashing into the ground. Mind you that was when I first started and didn't have a clue what I was doing. Took me an hour to figure out how to get the command module to detach from the rest of the rocket.

I'm not particularly scientific about it, but I would guess my fuel/stage ratio is about 12:3:1 where the first stage will almost get you into orbit, the second stage will get you where you're going and the last stage will get you back.

When I'm stuck the best place to go is youtube, it's absolutely full of tutorials etc. There's no shame in copying other peoples rockets when you're learning (I still do every now and again).

I went through the orbit tutorial last night and found it pretty easy to understand. Just need to sort out a rocket to get me into orbit now :p

Also some of the videos on youtube are awesome. Some of the rockets people build are unbelievable
