Kerbal Space Program

Personally I'm loving career mode as it gives me something to play for. Totally loving progression of my space program similar to the real space race :)

Same, i hope they add more stuff. Hopfully, go collect x for somewhere.
Put x satellite in y orbit for z company.

President kohn kennedy said you will go to the mun with in 10 flight, or build a space station etc.

I will probably ruin a lot of the fun of things by telling you this, but the way the maths works you get just as much science from transmitting a lot of times as you do from returning the ship with the data a few times.

Yeah I know, but it's more fun trying to return them, even if it means multiple missions to get the guts of the science.

I landed on Ike for the first time earlier, I'd never bothered with it before. Holy cow is the gravity low there, I thought Minimus was bad!

Yeah I figured you could probably abuse the transitions to get that. Still - point remains for final versions :D
There is a lot of scope for some awesome stuff with an unlock tree and missions, can't wait.

It turns out that a trip to Jool is very profitable for science. Managed to get over 1500 by doing far passes on two of the moons and a near pass of jool itself, an that was only with goo, labs and temperature sensors. I tried to get into the atmosphere but to count as being in the atmosphere you have to go down to ~85000m, which, after two passes of the moons to slow me down, was too much :( Luckily i had a quicksave i could go back to so i didnt kill jeb at jool

I thought Ike had higher surface gravity than Minmus? I think it's about halfway between the Mun and Minmus in terms of mass and density.

Yeah, sorry, I'm getting Ike and Gilly mixed up here. I sent Jeb to Eve so he could drop some probes on the surface and do some orbital science, and decided to chance a Gilly landing on the way home. It's a bit awkward to do anything on...

I was going to suggest having a look at Gilly because its gravity is way lower than anything else. I havent tried it myself, bt apparently it is quite easy to land a 200 tonne craft on RCS alone. Also, if you are on an EVA and you jump you can easily go more than 1km into the air

I need to do some science outside Kerbin's sphere of influence. Will be fun trying to get into other planet's SOI without using the engineering mod I normally use, but will probably manage to bodge something :D

I'm at an awkward point in that I don't have the nuclear engine for deep space travel, but have gained most of the possible science near Kerbin. Guess I'll just have to make a much lighter deep space rocket than I'm used to!

You get shedloads of science for just hopping out of kerbins SoI for a small amount and doing a little bit of science. I haven't found any planet that you can orbit that gives you more science than being high above the sun

i bosted out of kerbin's SoI in the same direction as kerbin was moving, did the science, then boosted back. Was incredibly easy

928 science in third mission to minmus.

So mission:
1 capsule on pad, planted flag and took sample
2 landed on mun
3 landed in minmus

Currently in mission 4 just aero braking in duna for an ike landing.

But you can do that whilst going to another plant, thus get even more science.

This is possibly the most masochistic spacecraft I have ever built.

Arriving around Jool:

The spacecraft itself is still in orbit - Jeb jetpacked down to the surface, and had more than enough to return to the ship. I don't think the ship would have had enough thrust to lift off again.

Have to say that career mode has made me go to the outer planets and try harder to make rockets to get there than I would normally do in sandbox where I would just make and test random designs for no reason. :)

I made a Rover Launcher today. No really. A million pics in the spoiler!

I started with bolting a rover to a jet. That wouldn't fly, so I put the same jet on either side of the rover :D

This nearly worked.

Next up was releasing the first plane early, But my tail started clipping my rover which lead to...

So then I got rid of the second plane and just whacked some wings on the Rover. I was getting closer with this...

But I landed in water. Oddly, the frame bounced on the water...

Lastly, I changed to an SRB. Success!

I spent a fun evening doing science when I could have been doing science!

Cute.

Im trying to return from gilly, fuel reserves mean i have to wait for an encounter rather than plan, this may tae a while even at x100000

Edit and I'm back, where next for the fifth mission. They spent almost 2 years in space. Slightly less science only 1900 this time.

Pffft. i spent 5 years on my Jool mission, most of which was on the return trip because i orbited the sun twice before i eventually got an encounter with kerbin.

Made my best STO ever, think to fly despite me forgetting symmetry on two parts.
Could do with spending ages lining all the panels up nicely, but its such hard work.

Look at all that oxidiser, half of it left.

Think I'll attach an ion probe or two to launch in LKO

I keep forgetting to save my missions at the start and when I press f9 I go back to a older mission losing everything I've done. Arrrg.
