Kerbal Space Program

Setting up a little base on duna.

Kethane miner
rover lander (which has 4 KAS containers on with pipes, pulons etc)
A habitat (3 man capsule for the moment)
and off course the rover.

meant to have an aircraft but its stranded in space as it cant fly in the duna atmosphere. However I did fit emergency parachutes, so Ill have to bring it down that way. And send a new plane out, with larger wings on.

Had a productive day.

1) I actually went to space today in an SSTO.

Sort of ;)

I was having trouble taking off and I wanted to maximise my take off speed, so being the just plain difficult ******* that I am, instead of designing an aircraft with 'better lift', I made a 'launch trolley':

Does this still count as single stage to orbit? I'm not sure if the trolley is a stage...

Sucessful trip!

2) I then made a VTOL... thing. This was my first attempt, and it worked really well, but I can't seem to recreate it...

it flew really well and forced me to finally learn about action groups to toggle on and off for the x and y engines if you know what i mean.

Right just got this today, followed some Scott Manley tutorials and can get into orbit quite easily now.

What should be my next step? space station? mun landing?

feels like nothing has happened in KSP for ages, I remember the days when it was a monthly update with great new content.

I'm not moaning, I mean i'm not desperate for new content or anything and what is already done is great, but it took seeing this thread pop up tonight to remind me that I actually own it!

Going to try and get back into it tomorrow, still cant get further than minimus without mechjeb after 2 years :(

Loads has been added if you haven't played it for a while, science career modem right click in CAB to change fuel, toggle controls etc, sabres engines.

And the great thing add mods to make it like a new game.

Yeah ive played since science, it just feels like its slowing down development wise. Not a huge fan of mods as I learned to land on the mun on my own two years ago and felt like a hero :D

 does not make any sense.
What has landing on the min got anything to do with mods, other than mechjeb.

Plenty of mods make it harder and more realistic.
Like relay network.
KAS to connect bases together and todo EVA missions.

Also like map sat to find Easter eggs and for the GPS.

Kethane is like near future, well they could do it note, but no need.

Then you got things like Farm and deadly re-entry but haven't played with them much.

Ok gonna try minimus, Im not very good at design of rockets yet! Most are 2 or 3 stage with a shed load of fuel and high weight! Wonder if can design a lander or something?!

Is it possible to build a base around the moon? Like in Starship troopers?

You mean an orbital ring? Far as I remember anything further than a couple of kilometres from your active craft despawns, so no, most of it would be despawned at any time.

Not sure it would despawn as its one craft. Even if that isn't a problem, your system wouldn't be able to run it anyway. No system could.

I hope they can implement x64 and multi cores at some point. Come on unity.

How? It'll crash your system, as it has physics on every single part.
Unless you make some custom parts say at least 200meters long, so you can do it in few components.

Reading the kip forum, it seems theres a 2.2km for physics, so even if you dock. It only models 2.2km from your control point. This causes the ship to break apart. And might also destroy your game, so don't try it in a universe you want to keep.

However there seeks to be a mod where you could up the physics to what ever you want.

But obviously you need a blazingly fast single core.
