Kerbal Space Program

The fuel transfer could do with one further option..... Balance fuel tanks! Would be damn useful on a lot of ships where you can't quite get them even :p

there was a mod that let you do that in 0.21 or 0.22, as well as choose the amount of fuel in the craft at takeoff. I think it was called TAC fuel balancer

is it possible you are just hitting the memory limit for KSP? KSP is horribly memory inefficient and has a limit of 3.5GB. If you have a mod like B9 aerospace you shouldtry using the low res textures. There is also a mod that drastically reduces memory usage but i cant remember what its called. It should be somewhere on the KSP forums though

This science malarky makes life a bit difficult doesn't it? I don't have access to habitation pods so my rescue mission has been put on hold on account of my abject failure in designing a craft that can split itself in two at the point of rescue. Thinking about it I probably could have just whacked a spare command module on top but I think I'll complete my current mun mission and then research the first probe. That should make it easier.

Intrepid Kerbal number two is in mun orbit as we speak, awaiting the order.

Started working on a new overly complicated but cool looking (imo :D) Deep space rocket.
Need more science mods on it and possibly need to look at adding Kethane parts to refuel.

Currently has in the region of 3500dV at a rough guess. Not got Kerbal Engineer installed to check.

I broke KSP again, just get a black screen with the ui over it, when launching.

AMD yes that does look rather smart, its hard to get crafts looking smooth like that, without lots of gaps and struts.

I am having a few issues with my Rover and was wondering if there is a fix for this!

I find that I lose traction and speed on every alternative terrain angle /plane change. The rover bounces around on its wheels (even at 1 m/s) and therefore cannot go up hills as it only has grip for a split second before bouncing around. This is very annoying and makes going downhill even harder as it 'slides' / bounces down hills.

Is this just a poorly designed rover?

which planet/moon are you on? Some of the smaller moons are so low-gravity that doing anything on the surface tricky

Well I've "perfected" my hydrofoil.
lots of pictures of not goingto space [//img][/QUOTE]

I haven't played this in a while so thought i'd start when I left it. Which turned out to be:

So new plan! I decided I would go [s]to space[/s] to a new island today.

Next up is that much bigger island to the north east of the KSC that you often see during re entry if you're aiming for the KSC..

I'd just like to show off for a moment, and show you all what can be done with these RAPIER engines.

A slightly earlier version of my SSTO:

r8q8Ofo.png

I built on that concept by adding more intakes, some RCS, and moving the landing gears slightly. Two RAPIER engines, and a shielded docking port at the back, in between the two engines. The docking port comes in useful in this flight:

FtJVu9v.jpg

Docked with an orbiting fuel tanker, and replenished my fuel and monopropellant. At this point, I had a choice to make. I reckoned I could get into low Duna orbit and back to Kerbin easily with this. Or I could be ambitious and do a Jool flyby.

As it happens, I went ahead and did the ambitious thing. On course for an encounter with Jool.

P4k1Tv4.png

Arrived in the Jool system. Some mid-course corrections along the way earned me a close encounter with Tylo.

Got a good view of Laythe on the way through.

Tylo (after some last minute course adjustments because I realised my course was going to eject me from the solar system):

That encounter left me on a fairly big orbit.

LX28JbQ.png

I didn't have enough confidence that I had enough fuel to get home with a simple burn, so I did a small burn with RCS at apohelion to get another encounter with Jool. I hoped to use a combination of gravitational slingshotting and Oberth effect to plot a course home. Jeb has already been in this plane for over 6 years now, and it'll be a few more years yet. Must be getting a bit musty in that cockpit there.

NCqAUQH.png

Trimmed the orbit a bit more. Got the post-encounter apohelion roughly down to the orbit of Duna. I think I'm going to make it.

U0xIHiG.png

Got my return trajectory.

ydHYlcY.png

A sight for sore eyes.

And down.

qae2YQM.png

I can't believe I actually pulled that off. Mission Elapsed Time was just shy of 5000 days. Does anyone think perhaps RAPIER is overpowered? :p Not just single stage to orbit. Single stage to Tylo and back.

5000 days? I hope Jeb had a wash!

He had to be sectioned first. 13 years of solitude... does things... to a person kerbal.

It later turned out, having consulted the records from 13 years ago, that Jeb is no madder now than he was when he left. So he's been returned to flight status. After a bath.

made a small SSTO space plane to launch small satellites. unless you get decent spot on, not capable of returning to the runway on a polar launch, 90deg launch however is fine.

so stable when loaded and unloaded which is abnormal, or at least for me.
Not having much luck with his big brother though, where I'm trying to make it capable of launching 45tons into 100km orbit.

capable of lifting this

nice, mine can only launch the smallest of probes, but then i havent got a cargo bay, i have to attach decouplers onto the back of the plane somewhere to keep it balanced.

You need to get in on the mod action, some need to be built into the game.
I want mapsat to be built in but detect water, which can then be mined to create hydrogen and oxygen for fuel (basically kethane mod).

Kerbal attachment system should be in there to allow refuelling at bases.
remote tech needs to be in the game for probse/communication.

ah well hopfully they will be at some point.

been playing around with kethane, planning for a duna mission.

mining on a different continent.

pretty sluggish on way home until above 15km, but coming in for landing

landed parked and transferring precious kethane

successful launch and flies well

now to get it to Duna, along with a miner, rover, base etc.
