Kerbal Space Program

 0.24 will be released in x64 on windows. I winder how much of a CPU boost that'll give. Seeing as it's CPU limited.
Now we just need unity to support multi core cpus

It's a great time to be a KSP fan, or a new convert..
Not to mention, that 0.24 is expected very soon. :D

And in celebration of the Steam Summer Sale; Squad has released the following video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17XveO-u6cs&feature=youtu.be
So if your considering buying KSP, now is a great time. Only £11.99 for 23~ Hours. http://store.steampowered.com/app/220200/

Happy Launching. ;)

Can I just ask a quick question as this is in the steam sale. Sorry, I could read through the thread but its 104 pages.

I've looked at this briefly and like the look of it, but I'm wondering how difficult it is. I'm obviously not after something that's simple, but at the same time I don't want something that's frustratingly difficult and that you have to spend numerous hours to manage to do anything. Is it good fun for somebody happy to invest a fair bit of time, but not loads?

Hope that makes sense.

I was going to get it but realised it's STILL early access?

Also, is it expected to be any cheaper? I don't want to pay £12 to get into a beta.

I'm very much against early access, though I have read comments from people saying this game is a bit of an exception to the rule and worth it. I think its been this price the last few times its been on offer, so I guess we may not see it any cheaper until its fully complete, but who really knows.

I don't mind early access, but if it's been in that state for a while, which is over a couple of years then it's just never going to be finished... They are keeping it early access so they don't have to commit to their own product to the point of finishing it. Which worries me.

Please skim through the thread, there is some wonderful topics; And it gives us veterans, one of the most comprehensive achieve's, of old builds and fetes of engineering, relating too Kerbal Space Program, available on the web. :)

Kerbal Space Program, has a VERY steep initial learning curve.
(Tutorials are included + Google, Scott Manley Tutorials. @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgPr4q5tj-Q )

ie; Normally where used to shooting, driving games in 3D, in KSP you have to learning orbital mechanics, in a 3D environment...
But once you have learned the basic controls, the entire Solar System, is at your finger tips; And its massive, with well over 30 Bodies to visit. :)
You can walk, fly, hover, or even pilot a massive rocket any where you fancy (Assuming, you can design, build and pilot the craft correctly. ;) )

And don't even start me on the modding community.. I am a purist (Doesn't like mods; But there is literally thousands, at this stage, to improve, make easier/harder the rocket experience.)

Yes, Kerbal Space Program, is officially 3 Years old.
And in that time; It still remains in Early Access (Alpha State), But in that time frame, KSP has evolved from Build 0.1 to Build 0.7 (First Public Release) To Build 0.23.5 (April 2014)
And Build 0.24 is expected within weeks (With a vastly improved Career mode + Windows 64Bit Support.)
And expect further release builds every 1-3 Months, depending on the size and complexity of the update.

Squad has almost a 20 Strong team. of Developers in Mexico city; And almost 100 Testers throughout the world, playing the game day/night looking for bugs.
Also a Build Version History, on Wikipedia; So you have an idea how often KSP gets update, and the content that included.

If any members are interested in buying KSP. And has questions please ask, and I will answer them if I can.
Please dont ask about 0.24! Because I cant say. ;) :D

Cool, thanks for that.

Then my final and deciding questions stands at this... Will it ever be finished and if so will it be within a reasonable time frame?

It's all well and good stating it's progress over 3 years but if it's still upgrading or implementing the career 3 years later then I won't be handing over my cash as it seems like it's not even half way there.

Certainty not for £12.

What does it matter if it's "finished"?!

I've got more than 120 hours invested in the game, it's certainly worth the money regardless.

I'll echo the "finished" thing. It can stay beta for all eternity as far as I'm concerned. For as long as it is fun to play and they keep adding new content I don't see why it matters!

I rarely play it but it is compelling and entertaining even in its current state. If they never developed it again I think it would be worth the fee. Knowing further builds are coming just reinforces that case.

Actually the Dev's are planning on going to Feature Complete* stage possibly by December time (Not Sure, if you could call it Finished.)

As the name suggests, there will be no further Features added at this stage.
(Online, Full Career, Better Aerodynamics, Possible Multi-core Support, should be added at that stage.)
Beyond Feature Complete, it would only be content added (More planets, Solar Systems, More parts, comprehensive bug hunt) All in the pursuit of giving you an almost limitless Sandbox experience.

Have you considered, giving the Demo a download. ;)
Its a very old build, but it will give you an idea of the game, or it will just get you hooked to it.

I couldn't have said it better.
KSP isn't perfect, but it sure is addictive. I have sank easily 1-2K Hours in the game; Not bad for a £12 game. :D

Thanks all, I think I'll definitely buy it at some point, not sure about right now as I do have a bit of a backlog but if not this time then the next.

aww man, multi core and having enough memory access to run ALL the mods [i like mods :P] would be epic

would love to get back into it again, but current build is slightly broken [ie constant ctd on my main rig] so i can't, but i suppose that'll allow me to renew my efforts to actually have a sucessful round trip to mars in the future. been everywhere but coming back is the tricky bit and i'm thinking orbital tug is the best route, but you don't wanna know what my tugs do to my framerate lol, once launched a single stage 3500 tonne ship, man that was laggy

Do you guys not get a 64-bit KSP binary on the Windows version then? On Linux (KSP bought through Steam) we get a 64-bit version in:

$HOME/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Kerbal Space Program/KSP.x86_64

This isn't used by default by the Steam launcher - so I just run it directly, and can have as many mods as you want. I'm currently happily running with a 12Gb KSP process with a number of mods, and everything is as reliable as the 32-bit version for me.

I doubt we'll see multi-thread support for quite some time however sadly...

the game is WELL worth £12, even £29 compared to some games today. Its amazing, and dont be fooled by it still being in Beta (or Alpha), the releases for the most part are very stable, and squad release mini updates within a day or 2 if something breaks on a big update. From what ive read the game is almost "finished" with the core systems, from then on they will be adding more content to those systems.
