Kerbal Space Program

The fact that the delta V is the same means you'll use the same amount of fuel on that initial burn, it'll come down to then getting into orbit / landing. I think the first one would be the best as you're doing the least direct route - I think you'll be closest to the Mun's velocity in that example and there should have to do less to then get into orbit.

Don't quote me on that though... I've never paid a huge amount of attention to fuel. Hopefully a few other people will comment with their findings!

The second picture would mathematically be the most efficient, when intercepting the Mun, and most efficient when achieving a orbit around it.
This can be seen in the picture, due too the Purple intercept line, been the longest (ie, the Rocket + Mun's velocities are more similar; When compared too the other pictures.)

However once you start getting fancy with your orbit; Trying to achieve Circular Orbit, or Polar orbit, rendezvous with station or just simply landing (In a very specific area.) You may find you will spend slightly more fuel in the long run, perhaps 5-50M/s.
ie, the inclination may be slightly off, if you have OCD, and fancy having it just right.. :o

But please remember, at this stage (In orbit of the Mun) You have done 80% of the work, you wont need massive amounts of fuel to land.. If done correctly.
Now if you plan to return to Kerbin, and not set-up an impromptu Mun Base, you will have to watch the DeltaV, if your new too KSP. :D
Take a look at the following DeltaV Map on wikipedia to get an idea.

So want the next update.

In the mean while doing a rover mission to dres, ion powered, it's taking ages to do manoeuvres. And I'm nit even sure I have enough delta V to land it.

Is it possible to rendezvous with an asteroid while it's on a temporary intersect path with Kerbin? see below.

Haven't done any rendezvous stuff before but would imagine it's easier when target is in steady orbit of something

I've finally started the career mode and have unlocked a fair few parts. Currently on my way to the mun for a landing attempt after orbiting it last time.

In the map view I've lost my ship icon on it's blue trajectory, any idea how to get it back?

Of course you can, it is harder as they're traveling faster and if you want to intercept close by, you have limited time.

Massive achievement for me today! My first Mun mission ended with Jeb being stranded there with 80 fuel in my CMOI rocket. Rescue Mission! I radically changed my rocket so it had moar srb's.

It was actually sucessful, and in career mode too, so I managed to get some good science too.

Very proud of my day's 'work' and very happy to have Jeb back.

Been back on this in the last few weeks. Loving the 0.25 build. Started a real career mode but with remote tech v2 and TAC life support so just spent the last few days doing spamming science on Kerbin and putting put kerbostationary satellites in preparation for manned and unmanned trips to the mun and minmus. So bloody time consuming to do it efficiently as possible.

Looks an awesome update. I look forward to trying to make a SSTO with the new mk3 bodies. Plus the changes in the editor look awesome!

What's the easy way to attach probes in cargo bays, I'm sure they introduced something an update or two ago, but I can't find it.

Hold the ALT Key + Fine mouse adjustments.
Was introduced in 0.25 to make attachments much easier;

And in 0.90 there has been significant changes to the VAB/SPH, to make our lives easier, as seen in the video.
Happy Launching.

Thanks

0.9 is officially out, all though steam isn't auto downloading the update for me. Anyway to force it.

Edit - there we go it is now.

What's everyone essential mods these days.

Going to start a long career game, once I get mods all sorted.

Certainly want deadly re-entry, real chute, interstellar, remote tech(if it's working properly), Trajectories, kerbal alarm clock, procedural fairings, Kerbal Construction Time, KAS

Is there any satellite mods that reveal biomes.

Regolith mod looks good, but it's to early along :(

Should I get into this now I remember playing it on a friends PC ages ago and had fun building but couldn't get the damn thing into space

Yes. It's good like that each learning stage is hard and theres a lot of stages. But once you've done it, it becomes very easy. Once you've done orbit a couple of times, you'll be like how did I never make it.
If you need some help loads of tutorials on youtube. It's good to know what the navy ball is and the markers and that to achieve orbit you can't go straight up. You eventually need all horizontal speed. But obviously you need height to begin with.
