Kerbal Space Program

Are there any newbie tutorials?

I don't see any contracts and keep running out of money...

Hello too all our new players. :)
As for Tutorials, I strongly recommend Scott Manley on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYu7z3I8tdEmqpOkQZCl5SZB5t0vXuxE0
Please be patient, and don't be afraid to re-watch them. KSP is incredibly fun, but has an incredibly step learning curve..

As for finding contracts, look for the Mission Control. It's Top Right on the screen, and is a small building.
Check out http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Kerbal_Space_Center For referencing.

Fly Safe. And have a great holiday* (May include exploding Rockets.)

Cheers, I did actually find his videos and for the most part they work - but he gets more funds and science (older version).

That said I just bumped the starting funds a bit more to help me through the first few sessions.

I'll take a look at the contracts wiki - not sure if I've found a bug where everything is blank, did a reinstall, perhaps I'm just missing something!

Yeah having the same problem. You can't get half the early science points and I run out of money so quickly. I think I will have to up the money a bit.

The trick is to accept the altitude contracts early on and only go over the specified altitudes by small amounts... say 1km. This allows you to accept and complete the 4 or 5 or so altitude contracts which are very easy and give a fair bit of cash in return.

However, if you go straight to space, 70km+ on your first launch, these altitude record contracts are not available to do losing you that early cash boost.

Also, KSP Modders out there, B9 Aerospace has updated for the 0.90 release.

Just bought kerbal a few days ago :D

Not exactly sure what I'm doing but I'm having a ton of fun learning :D

Just tried to reach the moon and by some miracle actually got to it partly by luck but not lucky enough because my Sputnik whacked into the surface and burned :D

Stumbled upon this page searching for mods

epic !

Agreed, it is EPIC!

I made it to the moon, then returned into an orbit of Kerbal to only run out of fuel before I can get into one for re-entry. Bill and Jebediah are stuck at 1M meters... :D

I'll confess I used to use mechjeb on everything but since playing again Im not using it and I've found orbiting and getting to the moon is easier than I thought but landing on the sod is hard

Found that with the new version of SAS landing is effortless. As your coming towards the ground, lock it on retrograde and use some throttle. It'll kill all horizontal velocity and then you just need to control speed and land somewhere flat. No need for rcs.
Bit of a shame really, it's taken the challenge out of it as this was something I used to be good at doing manually!

yea It's pretty easy, I just use mechjeb because I'm lazy and I prefer to play the game as a manager.

I wish you could just plan missions in advance and have the astronaut perform the manoeuvres.

hardest part is building a rocket that can actually achieve your aims the actual flying is rather easy

Very true. It was real skill landing but very easy now if you're not doing it manually.

Picked this up in the recent Steam sale. Makes me feel stupid, but thoroughly enjoyable.

Anyone know if the in-game tutorials are bugged in the recent beta? I swear I've actually completed a couple, but they never seem to end. Not that it's a deal breaker I suppose, but either it's a bug, or I'm doing something wrong.

The last time I played the tutorials was around version 0.18 so things may have changed since then, but I seem to remember that after the tutorial finished you could do whatever you pleased with the ship

*edit*
I've just found a very interesting bug with KSP that I would have had no chance of finding without delving deep into the known bugs section of the support forum. It turns out that unity has a bug which causes gigantic loading times whenever a virtual network interface is active, such as Hamachi. I had completely forgotten that Hamachi was installed on my PC in an attempt to get Robot Arena 2's multiplayer working, and this was causing the loading times to increase to hours rather than minutes. Hopefully someone will benefit from me posting this at some point in the future

It is helpful, but also pretty deadly if you forget to turn SAS off on contact. Had a couple of missions stranded because the thing landed, bounced upwards a little bit, and the whole thing flipped itself upside down. I always switch it to basic attitude stabilisation now when I see the shadow getting close.

Does anyone have any suggestions to make joints less wobbly on the robotics parts of the magic smoke industries mod without affecting the rest of the game? I've made a plane that flies quite happily as standard, but when anything more than the tiniest wings are mounted to any of the robotics parts the wings suddenly become incredibly wobbly. I cant use my usual approach of adding a billion struts because the wings need to be moved by the motor

Anyone got any recommendations for graphics improvement mods for Kerbal? I've seen videos/screenshots showing much improved planet details, clouds etc. But they all look to be for older builds than 0.9 :(
