Kerbal Space Program

So what's the most efficient rocket? Also where r u guys getting these mods from for version 14? How do u install? Been reading a lot while playing but there is so much random bits of info around its all abit confusing!

New fav game this, b ace if they released it on iPad also
 
the mods are all on the official forums, you usually just have to copy/paste into the parts folder in your game directory. Beware though as most of them were developed for 0.13 and are really buggy in 0.14, i went back to stock because it was bad. And regards the rocket, half the fun is testing stuff for yourself ;)

The most efficient rocket designs depend on what you want to be doing really. I mean, with stock parts i've seen people get to the mun and back with just the small engines. But i've found good to try to stick with the Soyuz model. Long burning first stage with boosters (liquid?) that drop off earlier than the stage finishes. Small second stage and smaller third stage.

Mods you can get from a few websites, but they're all on the forums so just go there really. Installation of parts is just extracting and copying them into a folder (will usually tell you how when you download them).
 
Really wish I hadn't read this thread, my wife is somewhat displeased at how long I've spent blowing up rockets (I'm completely useless at it :p)

Yeah, precision flying is damn hard. I can see that being a fairly massive obstacle when dockable ships come in to play.

the pay version does yes. Ive launched two big satellite and have been trying to meet with them with loads of small rockets, so far no luck. Space junk is becoming a problem now!
 
Well managed to crash by the rocket, so much time and fuel lining the thing up I came in horizontal at 30m/s

I hate throttle control, if you use joystick or something, do you get analogue controls? And as such full controll?


Also realy shouldn't of landed on the dark side of the moon, can barely see the flying rocket, let alone the ground or the second ship.
 
That's the second attempt, first time i got to around 600m i think and clipped a hill, everything went downhill (literally) from there :p

It's not perfectly circular, about 990x1400 (close to my screen resolution actually :D) but tiny RCS adjustments make a massive difference, at one point i was worryingly close to crashing. Plus you can only do like 2x speed at that height so it takes ages to get to where you need to be to make adjustments.

OK, that's just silly! :p

I've never been massively fussed by circular orbits, most of mine are pretty elliptical. The x2 speed would indeed be a problem though. I was going to ask if orbiting so low made it any easier to land beside an old module, but you're still orbiting at a pretty massive velocity so I guess not.
 
I guess if you wanted to use it to meet up with another craft then it would have to be a bit higher, not sure how much exactly. But you'd probably want to be in polar orbit, since that way you get to cover the whole surface more or less. I don't know about you but being captured by the moon always screws up my perfectly equatorial orbit :p
 
sweet i haven't done mun orbit before. in one know. 2.3km one side 30km the other, still feathering in close. as you say its a bit slow.
 
Bought it, can't get the dl working properly like a lot of people are having issues with, even the part files. Luckily the latest version is on the seven seas. Except now I can't patch like a lot of other people are having issues with and it's been weeks apparently.

A little miffed at it but I'm sure it'll get sorted, however long it takes to, oh I don't know find a decent hosting service to host a 173MB .rar file without falling over and corrupting at the slightest sneeze.
