Kerbal Space Program

The game is stable so issue is almost certainly your end. Do a clean install with only the large mods.
Failing that check hardware for overheating, broken ram and the usual.
But probably a mod if you have tons installed

No mods at all, but I will try a clean install tomorrow. I had this problem with another game a while ago if I remember correctly, clean install fixed it...

Success!!

Edit: Went with a much less top heavy design for the lander, worked a treat, landed at just over 1 M/S :)

Nice. But to me, if that's your whole lander stage then the outer engines seem to me like they're basically dead weight. You just don't need the extra thrust. I've managed to land similar (and probably heavier) payloads on the Mun with just a single 20N engine.

Awesome, I really need to invest in this game, had great fun with the free version just trying to achieve an orbit..... never quite managed it though..... on one mission I managed to drift aimlessly through space eventually passing the sun before I quit in boredom! lol

I agree.
However its Chris's First succesful landing... Congradulations.
Given time he will learn to build his landers more efficently.
Still 4 ASAS is unforgivable extra weight. ;)

Incase anyone missed Silisco's update to what were going to see in 0.17 here it is :)

In this update (0.17):

Lava Planet
Eve
-Tiny captured asteroid moon
Kerbin
-Mun
-Minmus
Desert Planet
-Large moon
Gas Planet 1
-Ocean moon
-Ice moon
-Rocky moon
-Bop, small rocky moon

In future updates:

Asteroid belt
Gas Planet 2
-Rings
-Ringed moon
Gas Planet 3
-?
Tiny Ice Planet
-Tiny Ice Moon
Gas Planet 4
-?

Hmmmm, my first lander (previous page) was far too top heavy, I went with this design mainly because it has a wide base and a low centre of gravity which greatly assisted in landing and not falling over....

As for too much thrust, it worked out pretty well, there was ample fuel to give me a very smooth descent, then to get back in to Kerbin orbit before sacking off the other four and using the final central rocket to slow my orbit and begin a descent to the home planet.

I'm not sure I'm bright enough to figure out a more 'efficient' way to achieve the same results, but I'll gratefully take your advise on board and revise my designs :)

Also, now I'm slowly getting to grips with the game, can anyone offer advise on accurately aiming your landing?
I can get stuff knocking around in orbits now no worries, but how would I go about trying to come back to Kerbin in close proximity to the launch pad?

Cheers for all the advise guys :)

Wow... DIS GON BE GUD

I hope not, that's far to easy, in another solar system, yes please.

Fair point :)

Tried to get into orbit of Minimus just now with my hugely overpowerful 'Mun Machine, the gravity there must be minimal (yes, I know!!) because I came dead close but didn't enter the SOI, looks like I'm going to have to greatly increase the accuracy of my flights....

In Kurt's livestream they said they didn't have any current plans to add other solar systems, they just want to concentrate on having one good one. They also said they weren't keen on adding aliens either, although they might have something like, say, you could scan a soil sample and find bacteria. They did say there might be more 'hints' to an ancient lost civilization too.

Finally landed on Minimus this evening. Still not 100% on getting the right orbital plane 1st time, I think it has something to do with my direction of travel which pickles me in space.

After a bit of faffing I got my plane dead level with Minimus & raised my orbit so I was nearly circularized & moving just inside on a slightly lower orbit, time warp to complete a few circuits & I'd soon caught up with this little planet & entered it's SOI.

I couldn't get straight into an orbit like usual, I think it has something to so with the fact it's so small & exerts such a weak force on the ship. What I did was to head towards the planet on a collision course then when about 15km above the surface, I did another burn which finally put the Peripasis outside the surface of the planet.

The descent took longer than expected because the lowest throttle setting is enough to start gaining altitude, so it was a case of turning the engine off & on to control the descent rather than throttling up & down.

Once on the surface I had a little run around, bounding over the entire ship in one jump, then it was back to Earth.

I hope they add more planets!

More planets are coming soon! :)

I landed a collection of ships on Minimus yesterday, all at the same spot. Firstly a 3 man shuttle which I put into orbit first and flew a single Kerbal down to land on the planet (:D) followed by bringing the shuttle down to the same point. Then 2 single manned ships.
I've also got an automated rover there :D

Want to see how big a ship I can manage to land on a Moon this week.

A couple of holiday snaps :D

Landed a 3 man capsule, took them all out for an EVA... then made it back :) You'll notice the engine on the pod seems to have snapped off, but the return module was built into another stage (fortunately).

Cool holiday snaps...
Wish I was there, well apart from the -100 Degree's.
PS: when in game use F1 too take pictures.

I finally found my first Mun arch yesterday.
So will be sending a colony of craft, to start doing research.
Perhaps it can establish a wormhole too another inhabited planet*
