Kerbal Space Program

is there a way to find out the offending object? a slightly reworked design and it gets about 20meters of the pad, then all the decouples on one fuel tank just fall apart. fuel tank fl-t32, but how do I find that part in the vab. there's another 5 identical fuel tanks and they don't do this.

probably too much power through the part. try throttling down.

Yeah parachutes make it very ugly, but hey ho, I need to use as little fuel as possible in landing, as that stage has to get back into orbit after landing. Each parachute is on a decoupler.

Does anyone know of a throttle plugin. Now got it stable, but it rips itself apart (to be expected), As my computer can't handle it and lags, I only have three speed settings 0%, 50%, 100%. When it doesn't lag, you have reasonably fine throttle control, but when it lags just those three.

You still exploring kerbal system. Should get the satelite mod and put one in each orbit and land on both moons, then return to kerbin.

ISA MapSat? Yeah, i have it. Haven't used it yet though. I'm basically trying to come up with a good, reliable, efficient rocket design. If anything the launcher i have now is too good, enough left over fuel to make the transfer burn itself. Might just remove that stage, although a long thin rocket is notoriously difficult to move around in space. Hmm...

If you don't already know, there's a KSP IRC channel on EsperNet called #KSPOfficial. Szyzyg seems to be there a lot, we've just been having this conversation about slide rules, mechanical calculators and the like :D

thorfinn: The perfect way to get our girlfriends (boyfriends) to commit us though: "OK, Eve is setting now, the altitude is 150 km and the UT date is... so I need to start the transfer burn in..." *produces strange circular instrument, turns dials* "exactly 22 minutes!" "Just WHAT are you playing?"

always wondered what that autom8 did.
it runs scripts. you can either make massive automated scripts. or just post command lines in, in the game.
So I can now control throttle.

to control throttle

so can set throttle to 90% that gets me to the end of the first fuel tank drop, without ripping apart. however I knock several engines off in the drop.
So know tweaking that.

half tempted to go in and change the explosive force. but I want to use stock parts.

I just made a new "lander" for an attempt to land on minmus and the mun. Now to try and design a way to get it there :)
The reason for sas in middle, is I find it easier to land on the mun with a larger vehicle. Minmus i prefer smaller ones.
Do you think it will work?

I don't see why not if you can get it up. its pretty big.

well after I couldn't get my last massive ship in orbit, ive gone back to the drawing board and come up with this. this is the lander/takeoff vehicale. the solid boosters are just there to prove parachutes work and simulate say landing on eve and taking off again.
I need to add two more stages to complete the rocket. a ~2500 delta-V stage, to do the same as that top stage and get into a deep space orbit. Then final stage to get all three main stages to 90km height. It's so much better and lighter this lander/takeoff craft compared to the last.

parachute deploy, as you can see I need to use a tiny amount of fuel to get velocity down to under 80m/s so the parachutes don't rip the craft apart. after that the parachutes slow it down enough to land unaided.

At this point don't panic, its not showing reentry to kerbin system. we need to wait till we are past the PP point
screenshot21t.png

Past PP we have kerbin intercept
screenshot22ln.png

About 10 days before we adjust are intercept, as you can see ill never get to kerbin at that height
screenshot23e.png

Trying to bring it down to 30km for enough aero braking to maintain an orbit, or as this is return, all the way down. so inside the planet is good.

Now time to see if I can mange to create last two stages.
is there any free video capture like fraps?

The Challenger can get me to the Mun and Minmus and back no bother. Some of these final stages i'm seeing are massive!

arrrggggg I jsut can't get it into orbit, despite I only being 72 tons. That should be easy. I think it's the odd shape, meaning I can't use my normal configuration.

But when your legs go sore from sitting to long, I think it may be time for a break and clear the mind.

3hours, 3hours wtf.. 3hours of failure :(

LOL, I have had days.
Yesterday actually, of nothing but failures... :o

An today, is no better. Spent the entire day working on a new aircraft prototype, an it looks cool, but performs poorly.
Time for bed, I think. :(

But that is the nature of a endlessly customisable craft designs, our imaginations an CPU power, is our only true limits. :p

Great job me227:
Just proves, keeping things simple works just as well.
Still there is a sense of achievement landing a 20Ton rocket on the Mun/Minimus. :D

I just don't understand.
What am I doing wrong compared to hundreds of YouTube videos.

1m rockets work fine, but 3m rockets where you have a central core surrounded by another 6 rockets (like scott Manleys), mine just explode on separation. They just crumple into each other. I don't get it.

Do you have your decouplers at the top or the bottom of the core rocket? Are you using the small ones or the new ones?

New ones, tried top & middle.

Where's the best place to put the?

Use the old decouplers.
There lighter, an have higher ejection force. They still barely eject 5 large tanks + engine away from your rocket.
I always put decouplers at the top, secured with two struts at bottom.

My AMBASSADOR Prototype craft has 3x 3m at the core.
Surrounded by 12x 3m engines.
Rips throught atmo at 5G an peaks ar 10G still holds rock solid, poor kerbal isn't impressed. :D

I've heard in a Scott Manley video that there's a mod which fixes the fuel bug, does anyone know where to find it?

I would try the old ones, in my experience you should only use the new ones if the old ones are insufficient for any reason. The top is the best place, then it pushes them away top first, and when the bottom of the tanks spin in towards you you're already out of the way.

I think it's this:

http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/showthread.php/16439-0-16-0-Hacky-Fuel-Consumption-Bug-Fix

But it is quite hacky, it basically replaces all the affected parts. You might be better off waiting until .17, if you can.

Thanks, I might aswell just wait. I end up taking advantage of the bug all the time, so wanted to stop myself from using it :).
