Kerbal Space Program

oh for goodness sake... finally got a good capture by Duna, and proceeded to aerobrake to lower my landers orbit before trying entry. During aerobraking you have to pull in the solar panels, however on my 4th pass i forgot to extend them again, and run out of power... ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG frustrated!

I tried to edit the save file and that broke the ship apart lol.

Okay, so I just bought the latest version, 0.18. The last time I played around with KSP, it was the free demo and everything was simple because there were so few parts to use (at least in the unmodded version). It used to be so easy to get into orbit, but now none of my old tricks seem to work. So far, I've managed to put a single probe (stayputnik) into a heliocentric orbit, but nothing in an orbit around the Kerbal homeworld.

I love this game, but I haven't the faintest idea what to do, or how to do it. :p

I have to agree with you. KSP has become complex an quiet work intensive.
I remember a Command Pod + ASAS unit + Fuel Tank + Engine was all that was needed to achieve flight. An it still is, now we has a silly amount of addons to expand an improve the rocket design an gaming experiance.

But its a space simulator (Mostly) so it was never going to be easy, there is a steep learning curve an A level of skill involved. Hence why real Astronaught train for years.

I recommend taking just one aspect of KSP:
Airplane Design + Flight
Rocket Design + Flight
Orbital mechanics
Docking
Landing on Planets
Rescue Missions
Rover Design

An fixating on it, learn it until you can pilot a Mach 4+ Airplane in your sleep.
Or Dock two 500 Ton Goliaths in space.
But have fun doing it; Laugh when it shatters to pieces when Docking slightly too euthusiastically hard, an cry when you run out of fuel 20km from the North Pole.
Its a Sand box game, do what makes you happy an enjoy playing it.

Also Scott Manley (Youtube) has some amazing inspirational + educational KSP videos, if you need some help. ;)

Me personnally, I am loving Air Plane Design an flight aspect atm, just so much fun in general. Plus the new resource system an working air intakes, really makes High Altitude flight a challenge. So rewarding when you can get massive planes working, or super high speed designs that are fit for Mach 5+ working or VTOL prototype to work. :D

what's a good orbit difference for rendezvousing at 100k?
2km apart, 5, 10?

i'm to close, going to take me 80 orbits to get down to 2km between my core and my first power module.

NOOOOO, I docked. But I wanted to rotate the space craft a bit. I thought as they are docked, when you separate they will basically stay together. it all went wrong. wanted to line some parts up. I didn't even take a pic :(, now to start all again.

I wish mech jeb worked, I can do lift offs and well theyre a bit boring these days.

* going to go download damned robotics for the rotator.

What I've learnt so far.

* Make sure your orbit is over 120k for slightly faster warping.
* Include advance SAS on each section of space station.
* Use docking nodes in VAB, to connect SS to your launch rocket.
* Attach a probe to the SS section. That way you can disconnect the relatively heavy (especially if you are trying to not leave any debris in space) launch vehicle, switch to SS part, and you have far less weight for the RCS thrusters to move.
* Always design it so you dock going forward, controls are far to hard otherwise.

Can you expand on that Highlighted point you made.
I read it as a potential Bug Report!

Docking ship A (5Ton) to Ship B (20Ton) an setting Ship A to control both now Docked ships, they have the flight characteristics of a 5Ton vessel.
An NOT a 25Ton vessel like they should.

Failed to stay logged in !!!!!!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaa

I am going to need a little more information; If I am to help you...
Is that the Squad Updater, The Forums, The Store or the new Kerbalizer?

You Dont need to login to play KSP, just update...
NOTE: The Latest build 0.18.1 Hotfix is released so servers are likely been hammered, potentially causing some Login requesys to be dropped.

The patcher, ive not played in months so mine is well out of date

Guys I'd suggest logging into your Store Account.
From there Download the latest Patcher (It now self updates).
The put it in a clean folder a download a fresh installation of KSP.

Decided to go planet visiting again, did to many docking things and satelites. What better way to start planet hopping than go to jool. Made a very small craft, quite smaller than i have previously made. Used the manouver thing to help me get there. Got there very efficiently. Got 1 large stack of fuel and that atomic engine left. Before i just got there with very little fuel and wasn't able to get close to take pictures of jool :)

Does anyone know how to deploy solar panels? Also, why is it that sometimes when I have no electricity, I can still rotate and thrust, but other times I can't?

either set up action group, or right click and deploy, although you need electricity.
if your out of power you can eva and get your kerbal near them then right click.

finally attached my power module. annoyingly still got a decoupler attached to the core. I hope I can dock my living module on there regardless. Didn't have any luck with that plugin, not sure how to use it and also couldn't scroll through the docking port list. so useless.

the rotatortron also didn't work, I assume there's too much mass.

edit - rotatortron is working now. :)
