Kerbal Space Program

Hi, thanks it's the real deal all bought and paid for. My tutorials stop at mun pt 1 though... The official ksp forums? I'll have to get myself registered over there. As I said the building is kind of secondary to the flying for me in terms of entertainment.

0.18.4 is out. A few bug fixes and a new stock space plane, but the big thing is it has been ported to unity 4. It is apparently better somehow. Downloading it now.

Edit: first change I've noticed is that asparagus staging with 2.5m parts is impossible now because they seem to have massively reduced the maximum width of a rocket.

It's so much more satisfying to fly your own designs though.

Oh I'm sure it is when you build them to a specification, this is something I will be intereted in, but there's no point me spending loads of time building something if I struggle to fly to another planet or don't know how to dock, etc.

Bloody hell guys.....

Learn how to resize an image.

You referring to me? I made all mine 1280x800, which I'm pretty sure is a standard size for this forum. Learn to buy a bigger screen / not browse this thread on your phone? :p

In other news, I've found a workaround for the radial decouplers bug. If you attach the part to a non-radial node first, then the radial decoupler will accept it afterwards.

Edit: looking back on my old posts, I notice some of my

How the hell do I get into an orbit that already meets something in orbit? I can easily match an existing orbit but how on kermin do I go about getting the timing right so I can actually match an orbit and the location of the orbiting thing? I mean, when in the same orbit I can't just stop, one this take immense fuel quantites and secondly I'd just hurtle towards kermin.

Basically, what I'm asking is if there is a way to work out when to enter the orbit without watching laps and laps of the two things trying to figure it out?

I followed these two pages on the KSP wiki:

http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Basic_Maneuvers#.23Docking_.2F_Rendezvous
http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Docking

It took me a few attempts of burning through too much fuel. But I got there in the end. :) Much easier with practice.

Well I just got my kerman out of his fuel-less capsule and he's now hanging onto the outside of a capsule.

Stupidly though the rescue rocket I sent up was also a single seater :p Will he be able to hold onto the capsule all the way into orbit do you think?

After 16 hours of him being EVA his original capsule is only 500 meters away, not bad considering I relied completely on the rocket, I don't have RCS.

I think I'm going to create a new bigger rocket that can pick up both of the silly kermen and bring them back to kermin.

Just had two full system freezes which nothing but a restart would fix. Both times in Kerbal the orbit I was on was incredibly wobbly which I think means some maths errors causing the jitter which also means cpu overtime and probably creating a fatal error. Looks like I'll have to delete that particular mission and hope it doesn't reappear. Alpha and all I suppose it's to be expected.

Same I've hard a few crashes like this.

So I was flying this thing to Jool:

A lander facing backwards on top of the nuclear tug. When it came time to detach those 8 side tanks, even though I'd moved the staging around so that the relevant decouplers had their own stage at the bottom, the lander's engines fired. I'm seriously scratching my head on that one because they should not have fired. The lander engines are on the next stage in the linked image, but I moved it around before decoupling the side tanks on the orange center, so that the decoupler sat on their own in the empty stage 6.

Anyway, needless to say, the whole thing crumpled up like an accordion, and the three kerbalnauts were stranded in interplanetary space.

Sorry to be an interloper, but I've just come across this thread and started reading my way through it. (it's big)

Just wondering if anyone could give me a quick heads-up of the main features of the game. An idiots guide if you like. What are the aims, features, etc. How would describe the game?

Cheers

Anyone else having a problem getting to the site?

There servers have been hammered the past week.
Mostly with recent launch's of:
Demo 0.18.3
Paid 0.18.4

It's just slow getting logged into the store, an selecting what file you wish to download, then its very fast.
Friday when I went to download the Paid game, it too 10 minutes to access my account an select the windows + mac builds, then 5 minutes to download nearly 1GB of files.
PS: There servers are hosted by Amazon. So there not slow or cheap, to give you an idea of the load... :o
