Kerbal Space Program

anyone made some buggies yet ? :D

Not made my own one yet, but I've put the stock rover down in the north polar region of Duna.

Making my own. First one i made tends to flip over a lot :( so i have made heavier one and quite abit wider. Also has a small engine, 2 thermoelectric generators and 4 z400 batteries on the inside :) and a lot of lights. Incase of power failure i added 2 solar panels on a mast.

No, I'm doing plane rocket launchers, like white knight/spaceship one. Moderate success. But the plane is pretty unstable. Go out side 20-30degree pitch and it flips out.

However drop part is sweet.

Its just darn annoying, when you need to change weight balance as you have to pull the whole thing apart and basically start again. when all I want to do is change say an empty fuselage part, to say a full fuel fuselage part, where they're identical sizes.

My buggy landed on the moon!

Tried it on Minimus too, however it's so low gravity there it just wheelspins and doesn't move unless I use the upwards pointing rockets to push me to the ground! :D

Emm going round in circles, no I have the plane realy stable, although could do with another two engines on it.
But now my rocket just won't go noes up.

Nothing to do with the latest update, but I just want to show off my space train. :D

Under construction:

Taking it to Eeloo and back:

I constructed it yesterday and flew it today whilst waiting for the update. There wasn't much left of it by the time it returned.

Thanks for the kind words, an hope you enjoy playing with my designs.
But please don't think I created them in one day. Took me weeks of trial an error an further testing for each design. :o
Well worth it, as there so good.

So i had a play with them, the Sparrow is certainly an interesting one to fly but the one i've spent the most time with is the Bell. I think it's amazing that something so simple can not only get up to, but also cruise fairly well at 1.5km/s. The fact that it can get half way around the planet in minutes makes me wonder about the possibility of using it as a rescue plane, but for two things. Firstly, i don't really understand how it works. Most of my attempts to create something similar haven't gone anywhere due to air intake deprivation. And also, it is quite hard to fly. I guess it's to be expected with no avionics or control surfaces, but once you get up past 15k if it starts rolling there's not really much you can do about it, especially considering you have to more or less constantly adjust trim as well.

If you look back though this thread you maybe able to find an old plane design of mine I was trying to get around the world. That was darn fast and resonably controllable.

Basically you need to stick as many air intakes as possible on and have a very high power to weight ratio, then hope you can get it of the runway as ramjet engines are a bit crap until you get upto like 10k.
Then you just have to learn when the engines are about to starve and not let them do that.

Edit - seems I didn't post a pic :(
wow plans have ot so much better in 0.18.

doing 1400m/s and still accelerating, holding around 21km high.
How far around kerbin can I get before running out of speed, also wonder what speed it'll stop accelerating at.

edit 1.8km/s and just under 1/2 of the way around kerbin.

Now to strip off extra weight and see what I can do.

2.033km/s before flame out and death, 3/4 of the way around kerbin. I will make it back to KSC in one flight darn it. Touch and go if it would make it back to KSC on fuel.

Biggest problem is just keeping it level, I wish there was a mod, just to hold the plane steady and not rise or fall.

Honestly the (SI) BELL: Was a prototype craft, designed simply; To be basic.
An sadly it's one I rarely use, simply because it can't land, an cant go faster than the (SI) EXCALIBUR.
PermaBanned. Is it the (SI) BELL specifically your having the control issue's with, or your recreated version?
I hid a Avionics ASAS unit, inside the Pod + Two Air Intakes, within the Fuel Tanks. By using the NO CLIPS with-in the SPH (CTRL + F12)
That is the only reason (SI) BELL Flies... :o

Also in my personal testing, I have struggled or shy away from designing aircraft, that utilize a Main Body too lift a smaller Payload craft. I have found it highly inefficient. An some times difficult, to factor for the changing weights + Thrust, profiles of mating two craft together.
But I do stress NOT always, for example the (SI) ALBERTROSS, is a great example of mating two craft together. :)

An please remember I Test + Fly all my Rockets + Planes with a Joystick, so there balanced accordingly.
If you wish to get good at AirCraft creation, I can only recommend Trial + Error, its not like your Kerbals with complain. :D

That would be yours, but that might say more for my piloting abilities than anything. I just can't get it to fly straight without constantly fighting with the controls.

As impressive as the Excalibur is, i can't seem to fly it at more than about 4fps, so... :D

Just successfully got my Rover to Eve despite twice managing to line it up badly so that I ran out of power (damn solar panels, fitting a single power gen next time to keep me alive in the dark)

Got into an Eve orbit, but missjudged the air braking slightly.

When I say slightly.... I mean I landed my 6 wheeled rover in the sea. :(

.19.1 released, minor bugfixes but still requires a full download since they haven't sorted the patcher yet:

Bug Fixes and Tweaks:
  • Fixed re-entry shader failing on highly scaled parts
  • Corrected an issue that would prevent large rover wheels from applying brakes
  • Tweaked braking speed and power on rover wheels
  • Adjusted how rover wheels display resource usage
  • Changed Ladders on the launchpad ladders to make it easier to climb them.
  • Changed the names of launchpad and runway objects to be more descriptive when you crash into them.

Well, with the release of 0.19, it's time to post updated pictures of my current hardware.

First up is my Odyessus station, in low Kerbin orbit

P46t8cnl.jpg

Second is Gallieo, in Munar orbit, with kethane mining operations on it. Still awaiting the arrival of my kethane mining unit, the refinary is on the station

Third major piece is Armstrong, munar base and the future site of my mining operations. Still a lot more to land down here, so far only a living module and power.

I'm amazed at some of the creations on here. I thought getting a rocket into orbit was impressive...

I'm now making a space plane, and finally designed on that will fly straight. But when I press left, I yaw to the right... I'm using the following components:

Do I need to use different wings? Or are the 'flexible' wings on the wrong way round?
