Kerbal Space Program

This game is great just played it lots of fun

Hope you got some pictures to post? :p

An on that topic. I present my Three favorite planes:
Smallest- Sparrow: VTOL Design.
Middle- Raptor: Heavy VTOL Design.
Largest- Excalibure: High Speed Jet (Mach 5)

Picked this up when it was cheap over christmas but been a bit busy to really get stuck into it. I finally managed to get to the Mun earlier though but realised I'd forgotten to add landing gear! Tried a landing anyway but when I eased the throttle up the stupid sticky keys notification minimised me and well you can imagine what happened next ha. Great fun :)

Lol. Yeah I hate the sticky keys for that reason.
Honestly if you have a spare £20. Invest in a joystick, the analogue throttles are god sends in that situation + the flight yoke makes piloting planes easy. ;)

I am having to much fun with these lol now to get it to duna

rockets are for the landing procedure, the 2 small tanks are used to fill up the 2 main tanks just in case i need to hop or anything. The landing struts are for parking on a hill and 2 large batteries at back for long running at night :) only 1 solar panel on the top. My first attempt, not the most practical (getting in there) but looks good !

Is this game 100% free?

Sadly its not; But know if you ever decide to buy the game you'll be supporting a new indie developer (Squad)

As pointed out, visit the store (Under heavy demand ATM):
DEMO Build: 18.3
PAID Build: 19.0 $23 (£15~)

Please try the Demo, about 300MB ZIP.
Its hilarious fun an has most of the features + MK1 Parts.
Even has a Sun + Mun to attempt landing on.

Paid Builds support Mods an inlimited Persistence Saves.
Massive selection of Parts from MK1, MK3, Rovers, Planes, Probes.
Has Docking an a massive Solar system with 20+ Bodies.
All future Paid Builds will be free for life, an there is a large growing friendly community.
Weekly challenges + Dev Demonstations.
Active IRC community.

If your a Mac + Linux user there is still Test Team Slots (Access to early builds + Private IRC channel)

If you have an Questions, please ask.

Some one remind me how to build planes. I've forgotten. Haven't touched them for ages.

When a wing sauces 1.9 lift, what's that mean, is there a table somewhere. Say 100m/s on runway, what to age would that lift?

Where should centre of weight be in relation to centre of lift?

Any other help on good stable plane design?

Hi Glaucus.
I honestly never concern myself with the Lift values.
However when building planes, one must factor for the weight of Engines + Tanks, when deciding how many wings to add.
Me Personally, usually NEVER include enough wings;
To save weight, an to give the craft a more Rocket like flight characteristic
(ie, It flies on the vector you point it, only when the engines are on)

As for Center of Weight + Center of Lift + Center of Thrust...
I find these critically important, regardless of the planes intended an actual flight characteristics.
By getting these correct it's possible to create ultra high speed planes, to heavy cruisers to VTOL or even SSTO craft.
So some trial an error an patients is required; Please don't expect to create a master piece is one night.

Some examples:
(SI) SPARROW.
VTOL Craft.

screenshot11km.png

From the side, notice how the COW + COL + COT all vary slightly.
Making an almost perfectly stable VTOL craft.

Another Angle.

screenshot13lte.png

In flight.

Flight Characteristics:
* Stable VTOL at >1M/s.
* Fly's normally, just like a helicopter.
* Top Speed 120+ M/s
* Nose heavy (Intentional) meaning the craft like's pitching forward slight.
* Capable of going backwards at 20-30M/s.
* slightly lazy on controls but responsive an accurate to within feet.
* 30% Throttle for Lift off.

(SI) EXCALIBURE
Named after Forum member, an is my ULTRA High Speed Craft.

Notice how the COW + WOL are almost perfectly matched, but the COT is farther back: This gives the craft a missile flight characteristic.

Power, thanks to 8 Engines. :D

screenshot21as.png

Re-entry heat, while accelerating into a Sub-orbital trajectory.

Flight Characteristics:
* 8 Engines (2.5units/sec Consumption)
* Main fuselage + 2 Drop Tanks. (Disable Main Fuselage Tanks, until tanks are drained. Then consume rear Fuselage tanks first.)
* Top Speed 1700M/s (28KM ~)
* Cruise Speed 1500M/s
* Sub-Orbital Capable
* Distance 0.5-0.75 The circumference of Kerbin.
* Will Turn Right, when Engines Flame out...
* Stable at very high speeds (However very poor turn rate), an stable as slow as 50m/s. :)

WARNINGS:
Please familurise yourself with all Action Groups. (Life Saving)
Joystick is recommended.

An now... A link to all my Planes. Do have fun, an please post your results an prototypes. :)

That's... wow Sean. I'm impressed. Kind of puts my last hour to shame :D

Thanks for the kind words, an hope you enjoy playing with my designs.
But please don't think I created them in one day. Took me weeks of trial an error an further testing for each design. :o
Well worth it, as there so good.
