Kerbal Space Program

After spending so long playing with Duna, im finding getting to and landing on the moon a right challenge! Oops, need to relearn some basics!

are the forums down for everyone else? Just started playing again without mods and getting the hang of the maneuver calculator quite well now, would like to have a few mods though.

Also do the aerodynamic parts make much of a difference i.e the nose cap and stuff?

Yes the Forums have been down (Intermittently) from Monday. Apparently the issue is been caused by there provider!
But it's not affecting the Home Page + Supporting Webpages.

In regards your aerodynamic question:
At this time (0.19) they provide no benefit apart from aesthetics.
In actual fact they hinder your craft, by been more parts for the CPU to process + adding mass to your craft...
But they do look good.. ;)

Welcome back from your other gaming voyages, an may your new KSP rockets fly true an straight...
PS: Pictures are always cool too. :p

Got my new ssd sorted, now remanding everything on the moon, using mechael this time, can't be bothered to do it all manually again.
This time the KSP folder is being synced to sky drive.

Forums are still down, but at least space port is still up.

My friend and I are going to do a competition for who can get to the moon fastest.
Any tips? Should i have a small, nimble lil' rocket or should I overload it with boosters, which is technically faster?

You really don't need much at all to get to the Mun. I did my first proper Mun mission with not much more than a dozen parts!

I haven't played this game since updating to v0.18 and the rocket building process was buggy. Posted it on the kerbal forum and was told to lower my resolution to 1024x768 for the build then I can put it back up when flying the mission. Anyone having problems building spacecraft at 1920x1024 with the latest version?

Mun base parts are almost all there, now I need that winch mod to get an update and work, so I can assemble it..

Can't believe I never got into this before now, it truly is very fun. Started Space Stations for the first time this morning. After many deaths, I finally got my core in orbit! After much time trying to figure out how to rendezvous, I then managed to make my first docking procedure with a fuel station. First attempt too! I then brought up a second one, and finally docked in a communication tower too.
Here's the result:

Not bad for my first space station!

Just so every one knows.
the Forum has returned. But a lot of user accounts where lost + Forum posts also lost in the re-intergration. Read about it here:

Holy Bat Man, those images are big...
May I ask what Aspect Ratio an Resolution the originals where at?

PS: Welcome to the community, an Happy Launchings. :)

Still down for me! :p

Anyone know any good tutorials on SSTO spaceplanes? I can build rockets, and I can build functional aircraft (I've even managed to land them a few times! :D ), but for the life of me I can't get a plane into orbit.

The obvious place to look is the KSP forum but like I said ,it still seems to be down for me.

It's deffinitly working.
Try a cache reset in your browser (Alt + F5) + (CTRL + F5) several times.
Then try searching for the forum via google.

As for SSTO. I am sorry I can't help you there. It's one area I struggle with. Despite making excellent airplanes..

This is doing my head in. Two days trying to launch a mahoosive rover. So far managed to get it 100km high but not in stable orbit. I've removed the mum transfer stage and the min landing stage. See if I can now get in a stable orbit, if so I will have to do docking to add those two stages back on.

Yes the redesign is in space, very stable and loads of fuel left. I think enough to get to the moon, will have to try adding the descent stage now. would rather do that than docking.
This is on stage two, jettisoned 6 rockets.

That's not a rover, that's the crawler that NASA uses to move rockets from the assembly shed to the launch pad! :p

I'm guessing that'll be a pain to transfer and descend, good luck with that! What's it for if you don't mind me asking? Moving enormous base modules around?

Building a mum base, it's got a magnetic winch, going to move capsules/stuff about and dock them together, I am now on way to mum.

I'm getting low on delta v, for the de-orbit burn though. Then I have no idea how hard it's going to be to land, it's nice and easy on kerbin thanks to the air. But none of that help on the mun.

Edit, now in mun orbit. 123m/s left in main engine. 1159m/s in landing engines.

Going to have to land by hand, TWR is to high and mechael just alternates full power with no power. Maybe ones I'm close to the ground it'll work. But just shaking itself to bits ATM.
