Holywood's hypocricy is staggering:

In a stunning Oscar upset, Roman Polanski - who cannot set foot in the United States without going to jail - won the Academy Award for best director on Sunday night for his searing Holocaust drama "The Pianist."

Polanski, who fled the United States for France in 1978 as he was about to be sentenced to prison for having sex with a 13-year-old girl, won the Oscar in his third nomination as best director.

Polanski's award was accepted for him in his absence.

Polanski previously was nominated for directing the 1974 film "Chinatown" and the 1979 drama "Tess." He also received a screenwriting nomination for "Rosemary's Baby."

Many in the audience at the Kodak Theatre rose to their feet in a standing ovation, while others remained seated, including his "Chinatown" star, Jack Nicholson.

It was at Nicholson's home that Polanski later admitted to having sex with the underage girl after plying her with champagne and pills. A stone-faced Anjelica Huston, who was in another area of the house at the time, applauded.

The sexual acts included sodomy.

In the news hot from the BBC, our defence secretary Sir Michael Fallon admitted to having put his hand on broadcaster Julia Hartley-Brewer's knee 15 years ago, at a dinner, and has apologised unreservedly.

World's gone mad....

Please don't misrepresent headlines

Radio presenter Julia Hartley-Brewer had recounted the "mildly amusing" incident without naming Sir Michael.

After his identity was revealed in The Sun, she tweeted saying she had not been "remotely upset or distressed".

A spokesman for Sir Michael said he had apologised when it happened in 2002.

Ms Hartley-Brewer, a former political editor of the Sunday Express and regular political commentator, has criticised "wild rumours and claims" circulating at Westminster.

She said she did not consider herself a victim after the incident which happened over dinner at the Conservative Party conference.

After the minister kept putting his hand on her knee, she said: "I calmly and politely explained to him that, if he did it again, I would 'punch him in the face'.

"He withdrew his hand and that was the end of the matter.
A spokesman for Sir Michael said: "He had apologised when the incident happened 15 years ago and both Julia and he now considered the matter closed.

Unfair for Netflix to cancel his series based on one allegation, I understand they feel the need to distance themselves from this but it doesn't make it right.

The Hollywood elite worship Roman Polanski as well, the likes of Meryl Streep who can't wait to virtue signal when the opportunity arises have given him standing ovations in recent years despite him being a fugitive wanted for child rape.

3. What constitutes sexual assault or 'harassment' seems to be being eroded to include any unwarranted verbal or physical contact between two people.

It reminds me of the thread about young men preferring to stay at home playing video games than get a job, is it any surprise when so much as smiling at a pretty lady these days may lead to being accused of harassment if they 'felt uncomfortable' about it.

A non-disclosure agreement is not the same as an illegal bribe, but on you go. They are totally legally enforceable.
Nor, I would think, is it the same as an out of court settlement to give up the right to legal action, as you might still (depending on terms of settlement) disclose details so long as you don't bring it to court... and with something like this, I'd wonder if the court could still prosecute even if the victim themselves did not?

Google Statute of limitation
I did.
Apparently in the US, crimes considered heinous by society have no statute of limitations, which may include rape depending on the individual State.

You disguised that attempt at a brag well, but I think some of us still spotted it.
Only a brag if she's hot... Single and desperate, maybe not so bragworthy! :)

except he isn't after his money, he just wants it "out there" so him and other offenders know in future that they can't just get away with it.
Unless he's already tried that and been told to take a hike...
So far, it sounds like there's nothing enforcable anyway - Apparently Spacey 'made a pass' at him. If that's all he did, then no worries, really.

something you're ignorant of, huh? shocking..
:p
There's plenty of things I know nothing about or don't know enough to have an interest in, which is why I don't care to post about them!!

Anyone who didn't know Spacey was gay has got seriously malfunctioning gaydar. :D
What about anyone who just didn't care?

Surely you understand that this doesn't actually mean anything?
The 'cult of celebrity' thing driving headline events like this doesn't work if you don't know who the celebrity is.
Accrington Stanley.

Any 'inappropriate behavior' is newsworthy at the moment, whether you or the law considers it inappropriate is another matter
Tonight on Newsnight: Dwayne Johnson leaves the top off the milk and drinks from the bottle before putting it back in the fridge!!!

The good thing about being an older gentleman, unless you have a passion for unsuitably young women, is women of a similar age are far less precocious about an unwanted advance, and know the etiquette of a firm but polite rebuff without calling the rozzers. I saw a very clumsy, somewhat drunken advance made on a lovely lady the other evening, she dealt with it with grace and style, with no humiliation or malice proffered. I then jumped in to show how it should be done.... :)

And got similarly rebuffed :(

Great thread title!

From what I can gather, he hit on a 14 year old years ago while possibly drunk but nothing happened, chatted up a few people over the years in bars who are now desperate to tell a story - other than some slightly inappropriate behaviour with absolutely zero proof against him, this whole thing has been a joke. I'm sorry for all the bad stuff that's no doubt happened to Rose McGowan but her crusade based on any accusation is pathetic, if she had stood up to this when it happened years ago, then she would have actually saved some people from being cornered by Mr Tickle Weinstein...etc

What I find hilarious is that she is happy to add fuel to the fire on any/all accusations, but when cocaine is found on her stuff, it's bs that shouldn't be believed and it's a big conspiracy....

Meanwhile, people like Polanski and Salva, predators who have actually done real damage, continue to get by with minimal disruption.

Let me guess, down your local pub? Where every topic in GD seems to happen in front of you.

I completely agree with you on the point of Polanski and Salva, however....whether it happened or not the real issue is that he is alleged to have tried to illicit some form of sexual contact with a minor.

Also Spacey's statement seems to indicate that he is aware that something happened, an admission under the blanket of intoxication and his homosexuality that he has thrown over it.

Chris Hanson makes TV shows about people like this, and the like of Stinson Hunter and the Dark Ones youtube and embarrass intent without the act.

This is a celebrated actor so obviously any stain on his private life (which he likes to keep under lock and key) is going to exacerbate it.

I am not that familiar with Denmark, save what I read about its grandiose carbon neutral "Green" ambitions and its rising ethnicity, but surely men chat up women in Danish pubs? Or are they also going gender neutral too? A proper English pub is a great place to see all factions of human interaction taking place, just as are many internet chat forums but with real flesh and blood people, not someone hiding behind a screen name of a schedule 1 hallucinatory drug :)
