Knife Thread

Looking at the website they are replacing them with the same knives but with darker colour handles so I guess that's why they are punting out the current lighter coloured handled ones very cheap, just offloading stock I guess.
A tenner for the beech wood handle or £40 for the darker one..
Hmm

I couldn't decide between the chef and the santoku so I ordered one of each today lol! Will update once they arrive.
Yeah that's why I went for the 3 piece set.
I still kind of want a nikiri and a santoku, just because I think they look pretty.

But £20 for a small medium and large knife.. Well... Bargain.

My 3 piece arrived today, pairing, utility and chefs.
Quite happy with them.
You can tell they are not as good as the elite range just from general feel/close up looks. Very much mid range rather than high end I would say.

But then they are cheaper, and massively cheaper with the current discount.
Overall a good purchase, in fact an excellent purchase... a 'decent' rather than 'excellent' knife at bargain basement price.

Mine's been delivered to work, going to pick them up later. I am sure it'll be fine for the money.

Oh for sure, if you were judging them purely on value for money, they are probably unbeatable. Just dont expect high end artisan Jap knife quiality, but still very much a solid good mid-range knife.

I can compare it to my other knife you see there on the block, it's a random one i picked up from a Japanese shop from Brighton that is no longer there years ago when I was at uni. I roasted a beef joint for the flat and used it to slice pieces of beef out, it was so sharp I could do it 1 handed. I didn't need to hold the beef in place and it went all the way down. I was amazed.

Both turned up today. I missed the earlier discount code, so sent an email asking if the 15% reduction could be retroactively added and it was, so a £3.73 refund means both delivered for £21.20 They seem plenty good enough for the price! Oiled both handles and they've come up nicely.

I was shopping for a stainless steel pan and saw the Nihon x50 Chefs knife for a tenner so bought a pan and the knife using the 15% discount. Bit of a no brainer

Edit: Knife included in a wider hoarde of deliveries today

Picked mine up from work today.

It's a lot bigger than i thought. I thought it would more like the shape and size of my knife (2nd from left), but it seems to be as long as that but deep as my Tog Santoku.

Excellent value for £10, the knife balances right on the metal bit on the handle before it meets the wood. It's pretty light but not like Global light (I think those are too light). The only nitpick is the wood on the handle seems untreated so any stains will get into the pores and stay there. Not a problem as I have some oil that I use for guitars which can form a permanent finish. Already had 2 coats applied in the photo.

Far left is my "I don't care" knife which i cut almost everything with from TKmaxx.

p.s. these Procook knife blocks don't age well lol
