Korean Grand Prix 2011, Yeongam Circuit - Race 16/19

Agree on RBR's pace in the hands of Vettel. He easily had 1-1.5 seconds in the bag as he showed at the end. The rest of the time he was just matching the guys behind him while maintaining a gap of 12 seconds as he has done so many times this season. If he didn't just maintain the gap I reckon he'd have been ahead by something like 30seconds to a minute. Must be nice to be able to just cruise around for 3/4 of the race.

There are aerodynamic changes on the way for next year. McLaren only need to find a couple of tenths.

I think they have to find a lot more than that. It's not just finding 2 tenths. They have to do it and manage tyre wear. How long ago was it Mclaren built the fastest car for the first race of the season.

I can't see Mclaren pulling it off tbh.

You want to be F1 world champion, follow Newey. It shows what a great job ferrari must have done to break him dominance for atleast a period of time.

Fastest lap by almost a second, Mclaren have to find more than 2 tenths at most of the circuits.

I gotta say, regarding EJ - the BBC F1 Forum lacks a lot of pazzaz without him.
Also, the Koreans really did put up a show, during the race buildup...it was almost like a carnival.

Clearly.

A less complete drive would have been better? Different strokes and all that I guess...

I can't tell if you're trolling or just selective reading my posts. Blatantly said him winning is fine but would have been much more exciting if he had battled for more than half a lap for it. Do you honestly find the race is as exciting to watch as is possible when vettel leads the race from start to finish?
Maybe everyone should finish in the position they start with no overtaking because hey it gets the same result right?

Remember both McLaren's had major understeer for majority/all of the race which is also massaging those figures to look better for RB

They were still dominant, and fully deserved the win but it isnt necessarilly as much time difference as you suggest either imo

JB lost 2nd/3rd place in turns 3/4/5 on the first lap (given his actual start was as good as LH's /SV's ) but being held behind the Ferrari's all that time lost him those positions , ie by the safety car he should have been ahead of Mark easily, unfortunate really as he did little wrong but to be less than 3s behind 2nd after 55 laps is a reasonable result for the Championship

lmao Lewis "I'm not being called up, right?"

:D

I think that quote speaks volumes about his state of mine at the moment. He feels that he's being victimized for no reason, hence his flippant comment about being pulled up when he's had no contact.

I hope he sorts his frame of mind out by next season and just gets on with driving. I'm a huge Lewis fan, but all this whining is starting to turn me off.

Don't forget also, that while RBR tend to evolve their car, my understanding is that McLaren prefer to start from scratch with a blank slate, every year. I hope this is not true, because if it is, they are going to start off slow, once again, next year and then progressively get faster as the season continues.

I still say, Hamilton must do everything he can to get into RBR for 2013, otherwise Vettel is going to take all the titles he wants, without contest, for as long as RBR can can keep supplying him with the best car (which probably will be the case in 2012).

Anyway, decent race. Nothing spectacular. Vettel has his 10th win, so its all about records now.

One thing I noticed today about Vettel today is that in the opening 1-2 laps, after race start, he is the fastest guy. Even Hamilton could not resist him on the first lap of the race...and Hamilton is super quick on the opening lap.

Could we be looking at the greatest driver of all time?

I didn't see him make that comment, but was it not tongue-in-cheek rather than a genuine question?

Selective? That's rich given the exchange above, if anything you've been glossing over points of mine.

Fact is given the circumstances, anything else would have been a less complete drive. More exciting perhaps and of course I'd prefer that as a spectator but I'm not going to laugh AT the race winner for doing a good job.

Not sure where you understood this from as Im pretty sure its completely false.

Yes this year they did start with a blank sheet (because of the octopus exhaust that didnt work), and in years gone by they had two seperate design teams to design alternate season's cars - but in general I have never heard that any team ALWAYS starts with a blank sheet , unless forced too by the major changes to the regulations (not applicable to 2012 though)

In my opinion, we're looking at a very good driver in an exceptional car that is considerably better than the rest of the pack.

+1

I still think majority of the leading drivers would have got the same wins as SV this year in that car, because Ferrari and McLaren were nowhere for majority of the season - maybbe SV got more poles than anyone else would have but at the end of the day , its race wins and championships which count to most people - poles & fastest laps are on a "by the by" rather than a major talking point , especially with quali becoming less of a factor

Was a great race this morning. Was a nice change to see the sun shining towards the end. It might be a bleak track, but boy does it deliver.

Seems the reason Alonso has been unhappy this weekend is because he has been told Massa won't be ordered to move out of his way, lol.

Great to see Hamilton back on form, but he still seems to be unhappy and withdrawn.

I doubt they will start from scratch next year - depends how much is left to come from this package. No point "evolving" a car if you know it won't beat the competition in the long run.
