Korean Grand Prix 2011, Yeongam Circuit - Race 16/19

Who on earth is "vimto" Judging by your comments I'd guess it can only be Vettel.

It's bad enough people calling Alonso "Fred" (since when was Fernando the Spanish equivalent of Fred?) but "Vimto"? Seriously?

You could hear the engine pound as they raced across the ground,
And the clatter of the wheels as they spun 'round and 'round.
And he drove into market street, his badge upon his chest,
His name was VIMTO, and he drove the fastest fizzydrinks car in the west.

Now vimto loved a widow, a lady known as Sue,
She lived all alone in Liddley Lane at number 22.
They said she was too good for him, she was haughty, proud and chic,
But vimto got his red bull there three times every week.

They called him Vimto, (Vimtoooooooooo)
And he drove the fastest fizzydrinks car in the west.(aka Benny Hill song):D:D

The internet is a serious place :eek::D

Don't forget also, that while RBR tend to evolve their car, my understanding is that McLaren prefer to start from scratch with a blank slate, every year. I hope this is not true, because if it is, they are going to start off slow, once again, next year and then progressively get faster as the season continues.
I believe they have already stated the next car will be an evolution of the current car, not a complete redesign

Righto.

That's an awful lot of one lap wonders he's strung together over the last 2 seasons you know.

Well you did know that rb had the fastest car for two seasons ferrari and Mclaren was always playing catchup.. it's not hard to work out..really ;)
Mind you he only won the 2010 WDC because rb used webber to fool ferrari and it worked :(

i.e F1 drivers could push the car till the end of the race because bridgestone tires lasted these new ones are crap imho
So you're blaming the tyres? How come drivers like Alonso, Vettel and Button can make them work? Perhaps they're just more intelligent drivers than Webber and Hamilton?

Hamiltons car is a bit of a dog but he drives the ass off it like he did today.
If Hamilton was as consistent as Button not only would he be second in the Championship he would be hell of a lot closer to Vettel. McLaren have got the second best car in the field so to say his car's a dog is laughable.

Now if vimto was in the mclaren car he would be mid field by the end of the race.
So he can drive a mid field Toro Rosso and compete with the top teams but he couldn't take the second best car and compete?

Your posts are funny :o

Just watched the race after recovering from one hell of a hangover:

Great drive by Vettel. Did what he needed go do, got in front, built a lead and stayed there.

Great drive by Hamilton. A shame he didn't get the win, but second was all he could have hoped for once Vettel got in front. Some epic driving with Webber, great defending, and not a hint of an incident. Exactly what he needed to do.

Good drives from Button and Webber, although I'm sure Webber will feel he should have got Hamilton but isn't sure why he couldn't. Button lost out due to his lack of relative speed in sector 3 meaning he always missed out on DRS.

Alonso, I'm 50/50 on. Yes, in the second half of the race he drove the wheels off the Ferrari and given a few more laps may have got Button. But with that speed in him and the car, how come he was unable to pass Massa? I don't know if he was expecting him to get out of his way, but he should have been able to make it happen himself.

I feel really sorry for Schumacher. Rosberg showed (all be it sporadically) what potential pace there was in the merc, so there was a good opertunity lost because of the yahoo Petrov. I really don't rate Petrov, so i hope Renault drop.him for next year.

All in all though, this race had changed my opinion of the Korea track. It's still a soul less place in the middleof nowhere in the calendar at the expense of other much better tracks, but it has given us a good race, so the layout has not be as fail as it first seemed.

Over all, a good race all round.

Alonso said he only had pace in the car on the last set of tyres. When asked if massa was moved out the way would he have got further, he said....

However, Alonso, who eventually passed his team-mate during the second round of stops, insisted Massa didn't hold him up.

"I was not much quicker at that time," added Alonso. "I struggled a lot in the first part of the race with the super soft tyres so I tried to manage the degradation.

"After the stops, I found myself between [Vitaly] Petrov and Michael [Schumacher] and really close to their accident in Turn Three.

"Then behind Nico we also lost a bit of time, but I was not much quicker at that time of the race.

"When we switched to the softs, the situation improved significantly and, with a clear track, I was able to push as hard as I could.

"I did 20 qualifying laps to catch the group [of McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, Red Bull's Mark Webber and Button] in front, but we arrived a little bit too late to the battle.

"I was only quick in the last stint so we will try to see why."

What gets me about the other teams is it isn't as if RBR have came out of nowhere. Where it not for the double diffuser malarkey, they would have won possibly both championships in 2009. 2010 should have been dead long before Abu Dhabi, and this year has gone perfectly to plan.

For three years RBR have been perfecting there design, while the rest trip over each other. They (the rest of the teams) absolutely have to hit the ground running next year.

Just watched it on Iplayer.

Good race, Vettel is unstoppable in that thing. Nice to see no Eddie at the race if I'm honest. and the girls get a big thumbs up :p

By miles Skeeter I agree. If the guy doesn't make it in F1 he has a job like David somewhere easy.

What's RB having the fastest car got to do with SV's ability to pilot it very well?

.

a tad bias if you ask me - a great drive from LH even though he was only 2.6s ahead of JB, yet only "good drive" for the latter......

I guess I shouldnt be surprised

WHAT?
If you have the fastest car you will win..simples and any of the top 10 drivers would win if they had the drive.

Or are you telling me that if lets say MSC drove the rb car he would not win?

He said over the radio about 2/3rds of the race through if they'd given him the extra DF he wanted on the front. I'm sure they said they were at the maximum?
