Laser eye treatment - who's done it?

I would love to do this but can't risk getting poked in the eye during boxing or something completely blinding me. Maybe when I'm older and don't feel like punch sports are for me anymore.
 
Would love to get this done, i was too scared as i do not know anybody thats had it done but after reading through this im very tempted!
Need to stop spending my money on my computer and other stuff and save and sort my eyes out!
Does the thought of it scare the crap outa everybody else aswell?
 
I been wearing my glasses for 30 years and really fed up with it. But, I do get scare of risky blindness in both eyes if thing go wrong (lasereyes) because I am deafness since birth and scare of both blind and deaf. I really fed up of spending £300 glasses every 2 years.

I was thinking of wavefront, but do they accepted 12 months free interest for unemployed ?

And finally does vision 20/20 with wavefront guarantee no risk for lifetime ?

Very interesting to hear your new experience phate, bet you were relief and does swimming affect your eyes ?
 
Id love to get this done but I doubt Ill be able to afford it anytime soon unless somewhere actually gave me a monthly option. Only have a small perscription aswell but I think its changed again :(

Also as Im joining the army I dont know if having this op would stop me from joining.. and once im in I doubt very much id ever get the time to get it done to!

I would like to get my eyesight sorted but unfortunately when I've looked into it I've been told that they can't do much for me as to actually sort out my vision would be very risky due to how bad / complex(*) my prescription is and would run a risk of leaving me in an unstable state.

It also wouldn't address the non-blurring issues either, (I constantly see what I can only describe as "snow" like on old analogue TV signals ... normally I've learn to ignore it but if I'm tired, or in low light, it can be an issue).

It would be nice instead of £500 a time for glasses or using gas permeable contact lenses (I can't use the cheaper soft ones).

(*) My prescription is officially classed by the NHS as "complex", I get free eye-tests and money towards glasses every year despite not being a part of a group which normally may qualify for these sorts of things.
 
Anyone under 21 had laser eye surgery? I'm 20 and am considering it although I did some reading and read that although 18+ can have laser it's best to be 21+.
 
I recently heard from some fairly in the know people that top optical specialists would only be interested in this in 20-30 years time when more is known about the long term effects.

Certainly made me reconsider having it done soon. Maybe later :)
 
I had this done around a year ago, I'm 34 now

Best thing I did.

I aint gonna lie, it was a pretty rough experience, freaked me out a bit - I never had contact lenses so wasnt used to my eyes being touched etc.

If there was one tip I could give, it is dont be afraid to haggle.

I got 5% discount for booking in pretty quickly, I told them drop it to 10% and they had a deal. The consultant went away "to talk to there manager", came back a few minutes later and agreed.

Mine cost me £2.9k after discount, I had one of the best treatments

Yer when i was in a consulatation with my optometrist they recommended me to be 21 and I'd rather be safe then sorry, Im just going to have to wait....1 1/2 years to go :(

Bit scared to be honest that something would go wrong, worn glasses all my life and started wearing contact lenses in recent years. Though it would be amazing to not have to wear glasses all the time.

With my prescription I would probably still need glasses for reading :(

Basically I would say they are looking for people with 2-3 years of stable prescription over the age of 21 to be safe. I would stick to this rule as bare minimum if you are worried.

I can see why you don't want to run the risk...but the procedure I thought was done in a very good manner and felt very safe during all of it. They do this all day every day don't forget.

For financing you would need to speak to them, I had LASIK (I think, can't really remember would need to check this thread) with Wavefront and I'm glad I went for the bit extra.

I don't think it guarantees no risk for lifetime, what they do do is some tests on your eyes to see how they are likely to deteriorate over the next 10 years (if at all) to judge if you are likely to need it redoing or will need glasses soon, fortunately I got the all clear.

But Bulldog...all I can say that my only regret is not getting it done sooner...it truely is an incredible experience and feeling to go from glasses/contacts to better than 20/20...there is not a day when I don't think "wow" or am impressed by my new eyes :)

I remember when I saw some friends of mine who are particularly good looking and I was totally taken a back by them...the detail I could see, the best way to describe it is by watching a standard definition dvd on a portable TV, then a 1080p film on a 50" plasma...the difference is madness. Get it done :)

Swimming is fine, was swimming everyday (and diving) on holiday in December, no issues. :)
 
Im counting down the seconds till I can get this done. Does anyone else feel like their glasses are like shackles? You can't just go swimming or play rugby without faffing around with contacts that sting your eyes.

I accidentally stood on my glasses and broke them the other day, made me feel like a pathetic excuse for a human being, as I couldn't do jack without them.

Get LAZEK like me. I don't fancy a flap for the rest of my life.

I'm getting LAZEK elite ultra from ultralase. It's the best treatment and costing me £3790. Interest free finance over 3 years @ £105 a month really is peanuts for my eyesight. Can't wait to get it done.
