Laser eye treatment - who's done it?

I had it done when I was 39 or 40. Glasses/contact lenses were completely unnecessary - for me - after doing it. It's only been the last 4 to 6 years when I've noticed a need for glasses, & I imagine that's due to too many hours staring at a screen, & getting older.
How old are you now? :)

As I said above I got signed off from LVC last week. I got through my official prescription for comparison, can't help feel slightly miffed I'm not 0/0? :p

Before (sph/cyl/axis):
Right eye: +1.75 / -2.00 / 135
Left eye: +2.75 / -1.00 / 52

After (sph/cyl/axis):
Right eye: 0.00 / -0.50 / 70
Left eye: +0.50 / -0.25 / 176

I'd be interested to see other people's results?

Depending on your age, leaving some prescription might actually be what they intended (and different ones in your eyes). They don't always aim for 0.00 / 0.00. Their aim is to give you glasses-free vision for as long as your vision allows it. This means sometimes leaving some prescription in.

Mine was:

Right: -4.25 / -0.25
Left: -4.75 / 0.00

After:

Right: +0.75 / -0.25
Left: +0.75 / -0.25

While the -0.25 in astigmatisms could just be measurement errors, leaving the +0.75 was intended. I see 20/16 and N4 currently so I don't need correction but leaving this bit on helps my long term prospects of not requiring a top-up in a few decades.

I had read that a side effect is that your eyesight worsens but im not sure on the chances. Im tempted to have mine done as im -2 in 1 eye and -2.75 in the other however i wear contacts so some of your points dont make a differnece for me..

There's a chance of your best corrected vision going down (i.e. Your best vision with glasses before the surgery being better than your best vision with glasses after surgery) but chances are very low especially at your prescription. Even if it's there, they will tell you during the initial consultation at LVC.

had a consultation for this today, i'm short sighted and they've mentioned a monovision treatment whereby my strongest eye is setup for long distance and my weaker eye is setup for reading.

the idea behind this is that i've no need for glasses, with just the normal process i'll need reading glasses, which i don't want or currently need.

anyone had this done ?, the company will get contact lenses setup that i'll have put in to show what its like to see if i can handle it before i have the work done, so i have the option to not have it done.

I might look into this, need some new glasses and prescription sunglasses but might just put the cost of those towards having them lasered. Which laser treatment companies are the best?

So... still interested in this.. (after 15 or so years!) anyone had Relex Smile surgery and how did you / are you getting on with it now?

Is that for eyes or teeth?

I had the best treatment optical express were doing 6 years ago and have had better than 20/20 vision since. I think it was called wavefront.

40 now and expecting my near vision to deteriorate as I age, as I was told in the consultation, but the optician at my last eyetest said it'll probably be mid to late 40s so that's good news :)

So glad I had it done, it literally changed my life for the better.

will be optical express in birmingham.

Don't do monovision with Optical Express. That's not good. Do blended vision. London Vision Clinic, Focus Clinic, or people at Moorfield hospital can do that. It will cost you more but it's well worth it.

I had Relex Smile earlier this year. I'm very happy with the results. I see 20/16 in either eyes. No side effects at all for me. The whole thing was done in less than 10 minutes, no pain after the surgery and I had 20/20 vision the next day, which slowly got better to 20/16 in the next couple of weeks.

Unless you have existing high level aberrations or very low prescription (-1 or less), or need blended vision, there's no need to do LASIK anymore. Smile gives you better or equally good optical quality with fewer discomfort, less side effects and stronger eye biomechanics.

Healing time is longer with smie is the only down side.

But we'll worth it

Its 2 years and a couple of months since my Relex Smile treatment at LVC. I really can't imagine wearing glasses again.

It's not much of a downside as most of the healing is done in the first 24 hours, and it just takes a few weeks to get to 100%. I was back to work the next day and could see well enough to do anything.

yep, its basicaly a few days with covers over your eyes at ngiht and a few hours with your eyes closed after suyrgery, vs being sorted an hour after surgery.

for the sake of a few days inconvience for much less never damage in the eye its a great trade off

Relex needs to be above -1? Boo.

I'm below -1 but was considering the topographical wavefront LASIK due to how accurate it is with the 3D bump map they make of your eye and everything, but if relex is even better that sounded great.

Yeah Relex only works with -1 and more, that's because otherwise the lenticule will be too thin to be safely removed. You have to do LASIK if you are below that.

As far as I'm aware, it's either topographic-guided, or wavefront-optimized, or wavefront-guided treatments. You can't combine wavefront and topographic guided treatments into one. The clinics that use both words actually only mean that they'll do topography and wavefront scans before the surgery to choose. The choice will depend on the scans.
