** LATE BUT IN FASHION: SAMSUNG G700 GAMING LAPTOP ARRIVING TOMORROW! **

Apparently the 7970m version of this laptop is out 24th (today!)

Your link has a trojan and when opened sometimes will cause this and sometimes re-clicking it will not trip the anti-virus. So step with care people, it looks like at random times of clicking that page the trojan tries to attack your system.

AMD Radeon HD 7970M be launched this April 24

April 22, 2012

AMD Radeon HD 7970M be launched this April 24 As systems have started to appear based on GeForce 600M series (GTX 675m, 660m and 650M) video cards, that escort Ivy Bridge notebooks, AMD also means to be present in the market for notebooks with a discrete GPU that offers high-end technology, this is how they look at the Radeon HD 7970M revealed for months by Dell, Alienware and it seems that finally its debuts this April 24 is within a few portable manufacturers.

According to the sources say the Radeon HD 7970M (“Thames”) is based on the architecture GCN “Graphics Core Next”, but not in the series Radeon HD 7900 desktop version rather be based on the Radeon HD 7870 (Pitcairn XT). On the other hand, the Radeon HD 7800M (Lombok) are based on the Radeon HD 7700 series (Green Cape).

According to data published on the Dell site, the Radeon HD 7970M will have a total of 20 CU (Compute Units) with a total of 1280 stream processors, the GPU will operate at 850MHz and GDDR5 memory and 256-bit will do at 4800 MHz effective (1200 MHz DDR), reaching a bandwidth of 153.6 GB / s.

For those interested, 7970M will be 50-60% faster than the 580M and shares an identical layout to the 6970/6990M.

"It looks like HD 7970M will be around 45% faster than the HD 6990M on average, or about 25% faster than a single GTX 580M"

Maybe a good idea if you delete the link from your previous post "#236" just incase people not running an updated virus checker get the trojan mate. Seems that site is dodgy on many of its pages not just that link.

Anandtech was underestimating there, badly, it's only 10-15% behind the 7870 which is way ahead of the 560ti which has much higher clocks than the 580M.

Might take me 2 weeks to source a card, but I have the heatsink on the way.

Got the SSD installed, decided to buy the witcher 2 and game took an age to install, anyhow I'm totally blown away with the performance.

Don't be fooled, this is a real desktop replacement.... Its a gaming rig thats mobile, i'll be happy to use this and never buy another desktop again..

I was pretty much a laptop gamer with my Dell 1749, however i'm fully converted lol you don't need a huge desktop PC anymore unless you love multi screen setups.

metro 2033 didn't quite work at 1920 x 1080 mind, DX11 with DOF and tesllesation enabled killed the fps, DX9 1080 worked quite well, however Metro 2033 has never been kind to any GPU, even more so AMD

Although the witcher 2 gave it a good run for its money with uber sampling, looked amazingly good, i'll try bf3 later but for now i'm off to bed...

Worth getting one of these now or risking waiting for the new card and not getting VAT back?

Same boat as you mate, I want something for guild wars 2 and I like the idea of tax back an 3d 120Hz screen but I am going to wait a few more days to see what comes out an when.

Haha I buckled, the card will do fine for everything I'm going to play Tribes/BF3/Skyrim/Diablo 3.

Time to take my rig to pieces & try and get some cash back I think!

How much do you reckon I can get for HDDs + 3D glasses (on the MM?)

You'll be well happy with your purchase.. I'm too breaking my PC up tonight and selling the parts off...

Are you selling one of the 1TB drives out of the Samsung? The 3D glasses have to be worth £80?? I bet someone here would buy them, wasn't there a guy asking about a second pair in this very thread?

Enjoy your desktop replacement, I knew you'd buy one in the end. I too looked over so many laptops and price per performance, it seemed silly money but its actually quite cheap with the tax back etc...

Just beware that you wont be able to claim your warranty if you don't have the original parts.

I swapped one of the 1TB hd out for a SSD and I intend to put this into an external enclosure...

So if I needed to claim via warranty I'd need to put that drive back into the laptop?

That kinda sucks..!! The performance of these laptops is increased by some margin with an SSD as the pre installed hd is only 5400rpm, which is fine for storage but booting etc SSD provides a lot more umph..!!
