** LATE BUT IN FASHION: SAMSUNG G700 GAMING LAPTOP ARRIVING TOMORROW! **

Hi Guys,

Forgive me if this is terribly bad forum etiquette, but, I'm wondered if you could take a look at a problem Lurkbaby, Bubo and me have been pondering here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18392287. We're struggling to understand how a Samsung RF711 with the same processor and a lesser video card than the 700g does its thing. Lurkbaby is trying to get Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun to run on the RF711's screen. It'll run OK out of the VGA port onto another monitor, so we know the RF7 will run the game OK, but how come it wont play to the RF7's LCD? Hoping with your experience on the 700g, a similar Samsung platform, you can help us leap forward to a solution. Thanks for any advice/knowledge/help you can give.

Apologies again for interrupting; if my pockets were deeper I'd love a 700g, but just splashed out on an RF7 instead which is yet to be delivered.

Hi

Thanks to lowrez for posting this and notifying me... The game I am talking about is called Tiberian Sun which is also a freeware.

Here is the link to the free game.
http://www.joystiq.com/game/command...mand-and-conquer-tiberian-sun-free-full-game/

unrar it to desktop then drag it into Program files X86 and click on tibsun_regadd and run game.exe as admintrator mode and don't worry about the internet files atm. When I try to click on options, internet mission etc I get a grey/silver line of bar.

Here is the video that I took on my phone.

This first video shows what Tiberian Sun is supposed to be doing.

Whilst not using the VGA port external monitor this 2nd video shows what happens when I try to follow the same as the first video

Any suggestion please? Thank you so much.

I've read all your previous thread. I'm afraid the solution may not be found here as I believe all the graphics output for the 700G7A is produced by the Radeon. Your issue seems related to the Intel graphics with that game and although the 700G7A has inbuilt Intel graphics on the chip, it isn't used.

Ahh ok, Thanks

My previous laptop was radeon, If I knew Tiberian Sun would be a problem with Intel, I would have got another radeon graphic.

Confusing model line up..

700G71-502UK is 2TB with ATI 3D

Yet -

http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/...uters/high-performance/NP700G7C-S01UK-support

NP700G7C-S01UK is either -

NVIDIA® Geforce® GTX 675M(2D Model) / AMD Radeon™ HD 7970M(3D Model)

Yet, Samsungs website only lists the GTX675M model... also 1.5TB with 8GB SSD

So, we've got three models?

the 700G7a with AMD HD6970 is out now.

The other two, I have no idea so which laptop do I buy to replace my Studio 1749?

There are variations even on the existing models, the 700G7A UK has had two variants, the 700G7A-S01UK and the 700G7A-S02UK with (I believe..) different HDD storage sizes.

If the specs are in the manual (they weren't on the page linked) they may simply be covering country variances in the spec that don't affect the overal instructions?

Its even more confusing than that, I was researching the Series 7 gamer 700g7a on noteboook check and kept seeing a Series 7 Gamer Chronos with multiple issues with the switchable graphics o that laptop, that's why I got involved in the other thread as it sounded like it was relevant. But why call the both the Chronos and the 700g7a "Series 7 Gamer", it makes looking for specifc advice on your version of the laptop pretty annoying. Seems liek there are half a dozen very different laptops all bundled under the name "Series 7 gamer". For the record I have the 700g7a and I'm glad it doesn't have switch graphics, as I've never heard of that before and obviously wasn't aware there can be problems with its implementation.

Well.... Talk about making it tricky as I do actually want to buy this, or whatever Samsung Gaming laptop...

but I don't know which model or even know where to get it as i'm totally confused.

The model at OCUK is 3D with a HD6970M GPU

Yet the other model has maybe the quickest Mobile GPU out, or does it, as the AMD model has the newer HD 7970M GPU and 3D..

But is that even coming to the UK? lol well, talk about making it hard for consumers to buy a product..

And to top it off, the G700G7A has VAT back, but will the newer models have this..

so I have either 3D enabled 6970M that I can buy now, or do I risk missing the VAT back and seeing of the 7970M with 3D hits the UK?

As the GTX 675M doesn't appear to be coming with 3D and whilst I'm not overly bothered about, somehow I'd feel like I missed out, why not offer the GTX 675M model with 3D as well?

Just a quick thanks to Genoma and Bubo for taking a look at that RF711 issue...think we'll try a shop return based on it not running what was expected. Enjoy those 700gs!

My belief is that the VAT back off will not be extended to any new models, what is currently on the list of qualifying products is probably all you are going to get. So if the discount is of interest then I wouldn't hang about. For me, I'd been looking at the 700g7 for a long time, mainly because it has a 120Hz screen and a pretty damn good gcard, and also good reviews on here. The VAT offer simply tipped me over the edge. I didn't do much research beyond that, though as I say I'm glad I managed to avoid the switch graphics versions of these laptops. I would definately advise looking into that before commiting to one of them now however.

If I was you I would be thinking this way:

If budget and time is of no concern wait for the latest model, your advantages are you will have the latest graphics. I expect Samsung would keep the 3D spec in the UK (I have nothing to back that up). However the new machine is likely to be more expensive and I wouldn't expect it to be included in the VAT deal.

However if you need something now and aren't fully sold on the need for new graphics, the VAT back deal now makes the current model a complete steal at the market prices. The 6970M run everything I throw at it including Skyrim in Ultra settings. So if you want a machine now get the current model with VAT back and invest the difference in a large SSD!

If I had the choice I would take the 6970+SSD over 13% more GFX power and no SSD without a doubt.

As a current owner, I regret the fact that I missed the VAT back deal, but wasn't too bothered about the new spec announcement. (If they had doubled the battery life that might have been a different story).

On 3D - it is a bonus, for it's nice as it gives me the option to watch 3D blu-rays while the GF is watching trashy soaps :) I don't however game in 3D.

PS:Closer To The Edge in 3D blu-ray is a great watch! Grabbed it for a bargain recently! :)

Oh in making decisions like this I really find it useful to write down on paper what you want each one for, pros and cons in two columns. Sounds silly but it works as it forces you to consider what you really need. I made the decision not to build a HTPC over this laptop this way!

Its not an easy decision to make lol

Basically I’m moving to a laptop permanently. My desktop is being sold as I’ve no longer got the room for it, the room the desktop is in is being converted to a nursery for our 3 month old..!!

I’ve got a Dell 1749 which isn’t comparable to the AMD 5870 in my Desktop, Metro 2033 and Battlefield 3 – whilst playable (barely for Metro 2033) at lower res, its quite annoying knowing my desktop was a fairly powerful machine which plays these games much better then my Dell with its 5650 GPU.

So, its for this reason I’m edging towards a gaming laptop with the most power I can possibly get, as upgrading a laptop is really tricky…

The 700G with the AMD 6970M and 3D would actually match or better the AMD 5870 from benchmarks I’ve seen, and the 120hz 17.3 screen is appealing.

Yet the GTX675M model, well that GPU really is sticking in my mind. As are the 7200 rpm drives

I’ll maybe end up getting the Samsung 700G with the 6970M only as I can pick this up now for just over £1100 with the VAT taken off. The 2TB storage sounds excellent, but it’s a slower rpm set of drives means I’ll end up plonking an SSD in one of the bays leaving 1TB plus whatever size SSD I can get that’s affordable. I take it having two SATA drives and SSD are not possible, so one of the 1TB drives has to be removed..

16GB of memory isn’t too important to me at this time, 8GB would be sufficient only as I don’t run applications in 64bit that would actually take full advantage apart from maybe virtual machines – I run VMWARE in XP mode sometimes to run older games Windows 7 can’t handle..

The rest of what I need I’m sure that either Samsung can handle, blu ray playback, internet, photo storage, movie and MP3 playback etc..

£1100 for what you get, its actually sounding to be very good value indeed.

Samsung NP700G7C-S01UK Laptop
Display: 17.3" HD+ LED Full HD 3D (1920x1080 Super Bright 400 Nit) with 3D Glasses included in the box
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-3610 QM Processor 2.3 Ghz
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M 2GB DDR 5
Storage: 1.5 TB SATA + 8GB SSD
Memory: 16 GB
Operating System: Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium (64 Bit)

This is shown on sellers website, is it just a misunderstanding with respect to the 3D screen?

Yes you will have to remove one of the HDDs, I got a cheap USB 3 external caddy for the one I removed.

I think for you it's whether you can wait for the new model and whether you can gamble with the price tag :)

Even with the faster HDD I would still be considering a SSD as the boot drive. Also allow some budget for a wireless mouse!

Thought as much...

Made my mind up..

I'm ordering -

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-127-SA&utm_source=forums&utm_medium=banner

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-147-SA&groupid=701&catid=2104&subcat=1427

Both have the VAT back.

I'll also pick up this -

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-061-AK&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=72

Or find a USB 3.0 version to put the extra 1TB hd into it.

Its just the VAT back offer that's really pushing this more then anything else now, as I know the laptop will handle all I need from it.. i'll then recover some of the costs from the sale of my desktop rig...

Already got a decent gaming mouse and a nice set of gaming phones...
